Plug-ins and Dance-offs
 by Fëanor

  • Dude, this is so awesome: now you can get your very own, really real and official, Final Fantasy XII potion!

Okay, they're really just energy drinks, but still!

  • What sounds like a pretty neat book has just been released: Half-Real: Video Games Between Real Rules and Fictional Worlds by Jesper Juul. It's a book on video game theory. I was going to go into more detail about it, but then I realized I'd just be repeating exactly what it says in the Joystiq article, so just go there and read that. The bottom line is, it sounds like interesting stuff and I might have to pick it up.

  • Hey, remember the knitted zombies I linked to way back? The ones based on Dawn of the Dead? Well, the lady who made them has made more, this time modeled off of Shaun of the Dead characters. You can find them in the "knitted minions" set on her Flickr page. (Via Cinematical)

  • Dude posted a list of the emails of a bunch of important Hollywood folks, and now Universal is whining to his domain host, demanding they make him take the addresses down, because now they're getting all this unsolicited mail. To be fair, spam sucks, and it's too bad the good folks at Universal (and elsewhere, I assume) are now getting more of it. But at the same time...that's hilarious. And how can you really say that what this guy has done is illegal, or even all that wrong? Plus, you've got to give points to a guy who'll use phrases like "solipsistic tree fort" when insulting somebody.

  • You all remember Oldboy, right? If you missed it, it's a twisted, violent, mind-blowing Korean thriller from master director Chan-wook Park. It did well in its own country and has acquired a buzz and an underground following here in the States (in fact, I found it to be a little over-hyped and disappointing, although still a good movie). So of course it's being remade in America, and of course the remake will almost certainly suck.

I am intrigued, however, by the news of an Indian remake of Oldboy. Of course, the first question on anyone's mind when they hear that has got to be, "Will it be a musical?!" The answer is...I'm not sure. I've checked out the site (yeah, the new version is called Zinda; curiously, there is no mention anywhere here that this is a remake, although anyone who's seen Oldboy will recognize the story and even various images), and even downloaded the previews (which you'll find in zipped WMV format in the "Media" section; I'd give you the direct link, but Flash strikes again, my friends), but they're really just teasers, and don't include a lot of actual footage, or any dance numbers. Also in the Media section are some music videos, which is suggestive, but far from definite proof of anything; and again, no actual in-film dance sequences are evident.

Even if it doesn't ultimately turn out to be a musical, though, just having the idea of such a thing in my head is pretty entertaining.
