Blogging Away Those Late-Night Eagles Blues...
 by Fëanor

  • The Harry Potter conspiracy theory: does J. K. Rowling really exist? It makes me sad that people can't believe that a woman could just succeed through her own talent, ability, and will. It also makes me sad that I started to wonder myself whether this could be true... (Via Backwards City)

  • Cinematical's Seven Best Christmas movies. They've made some good choices. It's a Wonderful Life is indeed a fantastic film, and I've always been a fan of the original Miracle on 34th Street. And of course, George C. Scott's A Christmas Carol and Alistair Sim's Scrooge are both true classics. Three Days of the Condor is, however, overrated, besides not belonging on this list in the first place - I mean, who even remembers that it was Christmas during that movie? Mr. Sassone admits he wasn't sure whether to include it, but he made the wrong decision. I haven't seen Bad Santa or Elf, so no comment on those. As for A Christmas Story, I've never understood all the fuss people make over this movie. I can't even watch it. It's depressing and full of shameful and uncomfortable moments and I don't get why that's supposed to be entertaining.

  • Video game controllers through the ages, via Joystiq, of course. It's an interesting look back, in pictures, at the evolution of the controller - and even the evolution of specific controllers, as some get multiple photos to display their transformation from alpha to beta to release version. The whole thing would be even more illuminating, I think, if the photos were arranged in order of the release of the device, but it's still quite fascinating, and warmly nostalgic. You wonder how people were supposed to get their hands around some of these, and just what were all those buttons for, anyway? But others look sleek and smart and mighty.

  • If you search just a little bit, you can now find the X-Men 3 teaser trailer on the official site. They call it a teaser, but it has enough intriguing footage from the film to make it a full-on trailer in my book. And it succeeds in getting me excited about the film. There's cool action and effects in there, a couple of shots of the new mutants, and a few hints at the Phoenix storyline. Good stuff. (Via Cinematical)

  • Agh! Must we? A Mummy 3? And why do I get the feeling I'm going to see this one in the theaters, too? Sigh.

  • And finally, via Cyn, I doom myself with my own hand, and learn the true meaning of Christmas: shame and damnation.

    Dear Santa...

    Dear Santa,

    This year I've been busy!

Last Sunday on a flight to Pakistan, I stole the emergency flight information card (-40 points). In May I broke kheara's X-Box (-12 points). In November I stole iharthdarth's purse (-30 points). In January I ate my brussel sprouts (1 points). In February I helped grrm see the light (8 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-73 points). For Christmas I deserve a lump of coal!

    Sincerely,feanor1138
