Jumps and Starts
 by Fëanor

  • Alan's Cumming back! To movies, that is. He'll be directing and starring in a dark comedy called Suffering Man's Charity, wherein his character will kill another character played by David "Angel" Boreanaz, and then publish and take credit for a novel the poor dead fellow's written. Wackiness ensues, apparently. The plot reminds me of Morvern Callar, but hopefully the resemblance is merely superficial because boy did I hate that movie with a passion. Anyways, the flick also stars Anne Heche and Henry Thomas (who I thought I'd never heard of, until I looked over his filmography and discovered he was Eliott in E.T.!!!), and the screenplay was apparently so dark that it made even Mr. Cumming gasp, so I'm kind of excited. I also like that Alan has cited Sunset Blvd. as one of his directorial influences. Awesome.

  • If you're one of the poor chumps who desperately wants an Xbox 360 but you haven't been able to get your hands on it yet due to the shortages artificially produced by Microsoft, you might want to make some new friends in Japan - apparently they can't give the things away over there. Sixty percent are still unsold. Heh heh.

  • Artificial meat? Part of me thinks this is a great idea. Eating a creature that used to be alive (and in some cases, rather cute) has always made me pretty uncomfortable (although not quite uncomfortable enough to give up delicious beef and bacon and so forth), so wouldn't it be great if I could have my meat without the guilt? Sure it would! And besides that, there's all kinds of benefits to the environment and so forth.

But...artificial meat? Grown in a lab? I mean...eeewww. I feel kind of sick just thinking about it. (Via aghrivaine)

  • I posted a while back about rumors that Miyazaki might be directing an animated film adaptation of Ursula Le Guin's A Wizard of Earthsea; now the word is, it will be done at Studio Ghibli, but Miyazaki's son will be directing it. This is not as exciting as could be, but still exciting enough to make geeks everywhere explode with happiness, I should think.

Me, I've never been a huge fan of Le Guin's, and I never got around to reading the Earthsea trilogy. Still, this sounds pretty neat, and I certainly won't pass up a chance to see the film when it eventually comes out.
