Dig and Dug
 by Fëanor

  • Is there anything we need less than a remake of Mary Poppins? Why yes, how about a Spielberg-directed adaptation of the musical adaptation of Mary Poppins! Blech. It will make money, of course. But it shall have none of mine.

  • On her official site (make sure to allow pop-ups), J. K. Rowling reveals to us that she plans to start writing the seventh and final Harry Potter book in January. She also mentions that there's always been a tough-to-write Chapter of Doom in every book so far, but the toughest one of all (she hopes, anyway) was Chapter Nine of Goblet of Fire - "The Dark Mark." I don't remember which one that is and what happens in it, but let's hope nothing like that slows her down too much during book #7. I need my Harry fix! Even if it will be the last one. *sniff* (Via Cinematical)

  • I make sure to check out all the fun stuff that comes up on Download Squad, but I rarely find anything I consider bloggable. And then, what do you know, they post two applications in the same day that sound fun and at least vaguely useful! Don't know if I'll download and install them, but they're neat enough to talk about at least.

The first is TaskbarPP, which allows you to reorder programs on the taskbar in Windows XP, apparently by just dragging and dropping. Like the folks at Download Squad say, this appeals to the obsessive-compulsive in me. Of course, another way to reorder your programs would be to close them and reopen them in the order you want them to appear, but that's, like, hard and stuff!

The other Download Squad item I appreciate is SafariTest, which allows an exclusively PC-using web developer to quickly and easily test how his/her web pages will look in Safari. Clever.

  • I posted a while back about that crazy dream project - the Scottish kung fu Knight Rider movie. Well, the dream has become a reality, my friends, and that reality is Night Driver. You can now watch the trailer, and/or just go right on ahead and order a DVD of the movie.

Sadly, from the looks of the trailer, it's a pretty amateur production. To be fair, it's certainly not nearly as bad as that Horrors of War trailer I posted a while back, and some of the special effects and stunt work are actually pretty impressive. But it's really only just good enough to make me wish it had been done right, by real professionals with a lot more money. Ah, well.

  • I finally checked out this Digg thing that everybody's talking about (and that babyraven and I were discussing last night at movie night), and I have to say - and please don't beat me up, but - I dig it. Anybody who goes through the free and easy registration process can post stories to the site, and/or approve of stories that other people have already posted by "digging" them. Basically it's just a news aggregator, but all the content is found, submitted, and rated by the users.

Anyway, here's the first story I dugg: Revolution definitely less than $299 says Iwata. Rocking.
