Doom Moods
 by Fëanor

  • What kind of gamer are you? This article codifies the six types. I'm probably a Casual Gamer, or perhaps occasionally a Devoted Gamer. (Via Digg)

  • The entire movie The Ghostbusters summarized and re-enacted in an animated gif. It's not as good as it could be, but it's still pretty impressive. (Via Digg)

  • Somewhere in the comments to one of the Digg entries on that animated gif, I found a link to this site. They've got cleverly truncated versions of four of the Star Wars movies (the original trilogy, plus the first of the prequels) in the form of Flash animated movies. I love the simple, bright animation style, and the precision and brevity with which they've retold the films. On the negative side, none of the films fit the music to the scenes very well, and The Phantom Dude is a bit long and wordy, but then again so was the actual movie. In general these are very enjoyable.

  • George W. Bush's presidency as a text adventure game. Thank you, defective yeti.

  • I disagree with Mr. Brunton when he puts forward the opinion that The One "wasn't awful," but even so, I am excited to hear that Jet Li and Jason Statham are going to be together again in a new film. The movie's called Rogue, and is named after Li's character in the movie, who plays an "elusive and brutal killer" who assassinates Statham's partner and his partner's entire family. Naturally, Statham swears revenge. Corey Yuen will be doing the action scenes, which is good news.

However, I thinks it's already pretty safe to assume this film will suck. The studios and production teams always assume action alone will carry Jet Li's and Jason Statham's movies, and so don't bother to provide them with decent screenplays. Thus they tend to be painfully stupid and unbelievable, with absolutely awful dialogue.

Of course, I'll probably still be lining up opening day to see this one, contributing to the huge profits that will ensure that the studios will continue to make action movies this way - with no brains and no heart. Sigh.
