Grubs and Shrubs, Volume One
 by Fëanor

  • If the spelling in this post is bad, it's totally not my fault - it's Google's. Their spellcheck server has been getting less and less reliable, and now I can't connect to it at all. Bastards. I rely on them to back me up, damn it!

  • It's old news, apparently (the article's from November), but I don't remember hearing about it until now: Cingular is becoming AT&T! Or re-becoming AT&T. Oh no! I use Cingular! What will I do now??

Start writing my checks out to somebody else, I guess. (Via Digg)

  • Speaking of companies getting sold and rebranded, check it out: Disney might buy Pixar outright, leaving Steve Jobs Disney's largest individual stockholder. This would not please me. I much prefer Pixar as its own entity, separate from the vile and gargantuan mouse. Still, lots of money and power for the Pixar folks doesn't seem like a bad thing...

  • And speaking of Steve Jobs and Disney (wow, I'm actually using transitions today!), later this year Mr. Jobs's little online music and video store (you may have heard of it - iTunes?) will be offering all of Disney's Oscar-winning and Oscar-nominated short cartoons for download. As Cinematical points out, it's usually tricky to get your hands on those Oscar shorts, so this is a great way of finally making them easily available. Plus, you can play them on your video iPod, and I'm always looking for more of such things. My iPod is hungry...hungry for VIDEOS!!

  • So what's the hack for defeating high-tech digital rights management on CDs? Step 1: Apply tape. Step 2: ...that's it. There are no more steps.

    Hah! (Via Digg)

  • That Spike movie is looking more and more likely to occur. And I still say, it could be good!

  • The super hybrid car of the future: 330 mpg. That's hot.

  • Apparently, there's an Eagle Scout merit badge in atomic energy. Who knew? Eagle Scouts, I guess. Also apparently, some Eagle Scouts let acquiring such a badge get to their heads. David Hahn was one such scout; he decided it made him qualified to make his own nuclear reactor. Here's the story (and here it is again, in more detail) of how he almost succeeded - and how he did, in fact, succeed in making a working neutron gun. (Via Digg)
