Follow-up to yesterday's post |

- Bands I heard a few songs by on the radio and thought I liked, but after listening to more of their music, I've realized I don't like them very much after all: Red Hot Chili Peppers (the older stuff on their "What Hits" collection in particular is just awful), Duncan Sheik (sorry, VM, but he's just so...bland), and Sublime (turns out to be nothing more than lame stoner music about stealing things and getting high)
- Band I discovered I just plain don't like: Butthole Surfers (they suck big time in every way a band can suck)
- Band I re-discovered I just plain don't like: Autechre (I'm glad that such a band exists, to extend the meaning of music, but screeching repetitive electronic noises is not my idea of fun)
- Book series I've been reading for a while now and not particularly enjoying and that I think I'm finally going to give up on: Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe. It's supposed to be one of the greatest sci-fi series ever, but I just find it dull, meandering, and pointless. I hung in there for two books and a little bit of a third one just to see if it was going to end up getting anywhere, but its clumsy story-telling and the generally weird and depressing atmosphere of its world has finally taken its toll on me.
- Book series I've been reading for a while now and not particularly enjoying and that I think I'm not going to give up on: Stephen King's Dark Tower series. I just finished book three and it's time to go dig up a copy of book four, but I'm doing it now purely out of a blind obligation and desire to finish the damn series. The more I read of King, the more I'm convinced that he's a clumsy, obvious, and just generally terrible writer, although admittedly a great story-teller (in that he can somehow keep things interesting and keep you reading, despite his boring, angry, squawking, excitable characters). I want to see what happens, damn it! Maybe I should just ask bloginator or kds for a summary...
