Voluminous Volumes, Volume Four
 by Fëanor

  • Tony Scott's going to direct a thriller called Deja Vu in which Val Kilmer and Denzel Washington go back in time to stop a terrorist from blowing up a ferry. I say a big "Boo!" to the title - seriously, that's just lame - but other than that, this sounds like it could be a good movie. I like Val Kilmer, and even though I think Denzel's fast becoming a caricature of himself, I know he can be a good actor. And after all, I can't resist a good time travel movie.

  • Ooh, I'm tempted by this $100 250GB external hard drive. The $50 mail-in rebate is only good until the end of this month...hmmm... (Via Digg)

  • Seems like there's a ton of rumors flying around lately about Angelina Jolie appearing in upcoming films. This particular one is about her maybe showing up in the next Sin City movie, probably as Dwight's smoking hot femme fatale old flame, Ava (Dwight, if you don't remember, was Clive Owen's character in the first movie). Sounds good to me!

  • McSweeney's is hit or miss for me, but this one is definitely a hit; in fact, this is one of the funniest things I've ever read there, if not the funniest, and as usual the title pretty much explains it all: Scenes From Lord of the Rings That Might Have Been Used as Setups for Bad Commercials Had the Filmmakers Not Respected the Material. Truly fantastic. I'm serious, you need to go read this right now. (Via Backwards City and Sarcasmo's Corner)

  • Metacritic sums up the best movies of 2005 with a list of everybody's top ten lists, and then a histogram of that list of lists. Awesome. Unfortunately, I've seen pretty much none of these movies. I need to get watching! (Via Backwards City)

  • Holy crap. If you've ever read the Narnia series, you should definitely head over and read these scans of a short story by Neil Gaiman called The Problem of Susan. The story pulls out some of the most disturbing issues and suggestions lying beneath the surface of Narnia and brings them out starkly into the light to be examined. It's fantastically written and very effective. (Via Backwards City)
