- This scary old bird had a 17-foot wingspan and big, bony teeth. Woah.
- A new trailer for the live-action Space Battleship Yamato. Holy crap does it look (and sound!) corny.
- A collection of insane video clips from ninja and kung fu movies. The most insane feature magic abilities only available to ninja women, and are NSFW.
- A cat version of Neil Gaiman, from a special episode of Arthur.
- Cool paintings of giant animals menacing cities.
- Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely are teaming up again, this time for Pax Americana, a 21st century Watchmen using the original Charlton Comics characters. Dude. I'm so there.
- Cat representations of Marvel Comics characters sort of blew up on the internet recently. I believe Super Punch managed to collect all of them into one post.
- I've seen examples of these tiny, real-world, sculpture installations before, and they're always fantastic and beautiful.
- A lovely, evocative, Halloween-inspired piece of art.
- A gallery of impressive, sci-fi LEGO creations. I've seen a lot of these before, but some are new, and all are cool.
- This fall's new crop of TV shows are given more accurate titles by the folks at College Humor. (Via)
- Because they're from Fringe, I feel honor-bound to link to these set pics. But a warning: they are really boring.
- I'm not a huge fan of Terry Pratchett, but I am impressed that he made his own sword out of meteorites.
- A not particularly helpful poster on the subject of removing face-huggers.
- This past weekend was Street Fighter weekend at Springfield Punx.
- A NSFW burlesque battle: Star Trek vs. Star Wars.

- Remember that movie The Expendables with Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, and like everybody else in it? Here's the trailer. Looks like your typical big, dumb action movie. (Via)
- Star Wars pin-ups. (Via)
- The 160 greatest Arnold Schwarzenegger quotes, all collected in one convenient YouTube video. (Via)
- Supposedly Joss Whedon is on the short list to direct the Avengers movie. This is also supposedly not an April Fool's joke. But I find that hard to believe. (Via)
- How about some 8-bit Pink Floyd? (Via)
- io9 gives us 25 reasons to get excited about comics this spring by previewing 25 of the most promising upcoming series. I agree with them on S.H.I.E.L.D., Jason Aaron's Astonishing Spider-Man/Wolverine (I hadn't even heard about that before), Grant Morrison's The Return of Bruce Wayne, Patton Oswalt's Serenity book, Buzzard, and of course anything having to do with Hellboy. I will most certainly have to try Brightest Day, a few of the new Avengers books, and The Flash, but I don't hold out a lot of hope for them. The rest don't interest me.
- The Hulk, Spider-Man, and other modern pop culture heroes inserted into ancient art.
- Another new Adam WarRock track, this one dealing (at least tangentially) with Flash Gordon.
- A unique, animated entry on Animals with Lightsabers.
- The new, manly way to cook bacon: with a machine gun.
- Paul Greengrass, best known for making a couple of the Bourne movies, has been picked to direct James Cameron's 3D remake of Fantastic Voyage.
- LOLCats trading cards.
- Ah, the Tea Party: a haven for those who truly enjoy experimenting with the English language.
- Leonardo DiCaprio may play J. Edgar Hoover for Clint Eastwood in a biopic.

- Another great entry on Covered: Aaron Renier turns the cover of an issue of the Ewoks comic book into something more realistic, and culturally appropriate.
- Some pretty amazing submissions to March M.O.D.O.K. Madness.
- Rose McGowan has joined the cast of Conan as an evil half human, half witch. Which would seem to suggest she won't be in that Red Sonja movie after all. But you never know.
- A very amusing look at the dark dreams of a cute little kitty.
- The Bill Paxton pinball machine is complete, and it's a thing of beauty. Photo gallery here. (Via)
- This is pretty amazing. George R.R. Martin, in talking about a series of virtual cage match battles between fictional characters taking place on a website, decided to write a short short story about his own character, Jaime Lannister, going up against the Elder God Cthulhu. It's a fun little piece.
- Jay-Z and Jack White have recorded a song together! I must hear it! I must own it! (Via)
- Interesting details from M. Night Shyamalan about his live-action film adaptation of The Last Airbender. Huge bummer: King Bumi will not appear in the film. Kind of understandable, but still disappointing. I'm glad the guy's dedicated to doing multiple films, and that he seems to understand the nature and importance of the relationship between Aang and Appa. Also, looks like Shyamalan himself will appear in a later entry in the series as "a stinky cameo his family picked out for him." Hmm... Finally, this article mentions the question of whether the cabbage guy will appear in the movie, but doesn't reveal the answer! Tease!!
- Sigourney Weaver has joined the cast of Vamps as "the vampire Queen." Nice!
- The Hobbit starts shooting in June! Woo hoo!
- A 3D, computer-generated flyby of the surface of Mars created using data gathered from the Mars Orbiter. This is a great way to pick out where you want to set up your biodome when we move to Mars after the inevitable destruction of the Earth.
- The ISS takes a fond look at a great scene from an under-appreciated film.
- I know it's irrelevant, but this irrelephant graphic amused me.
- LEGO CubeDudes are always fun. Here's one of Kuato, that creepy dude from Total Recall.
- A great Killing Joke art piece, and Totoro cookies. (Via)

- Above is OK Go's latest music video, and it just might be the best thing ever. I watched it with my jaw dropped open and chills running up and down my spine. (Via)
- A fantastic image: Darth Vader riding a cat. (Via)
- First, here's some behind-the-scenes stuff on Iron Man 2, plus a clip from the actual movie (albeit in French). Next, here's some analysis of said clip claiming that Thor appears in the background of one shot. This seems unlikely - why would Thor be in a jail in Monaco? - but you never know.
- Robert McCall died recently, and as a tribute to him, io9 has posted a small gallery of his stunning space art.
- The Hobbit could be going 3D, and Tron Legacy might pull a Dark Knight and have five sequences shot exclusively for IMAX.
- Roland Emmerich is trying to calm the worries of fans over his upcoming film adaptation of the Foundation novels, claiming that he wants to "give people exactly what the Foundation trilogy is." He also mentions how disappointing I, Robot was (and yeah, it really, really was - good lord, what a crappy movie) and how he wants to avoid those mistakes. Emmerich also says he wants to use 3D and motion-capture, a la Avatar, to make the movie. After reading these comments, I still don't feel safe, but I feel better. At least Emmerich doesn't think I, Robot was awesome.
- Dude spent three years building Minas Tirith out of matches. It's a thing to behold.
- More Super Punch Tarot cards!
- It's Christopher Nolan Bat-Week at Springfield Punx!
- 30 awesome, rare Star Wars photos. (Via)
- Radio 4 in the UK is airing a radio version of Goldfinger in which Ian McKellen will play the title character. Cool.
- Comics blogger extraordinaire Chris Sims and friends have launched a new web comic called Awesome Hospital. It's taking its time getting started, but I have high hopes.

- In honor of Valentine's Day I present, above, the venerable "Crunchy Frog" sketch from Monty Python's Flying Circus. Enjoy those chocolate assortments, folks! And while we're talking about the holiday, check out some geek (via) and Mr. Freeze-themed Valentines.
- This Nic Cage as Everyone entry is particularly well done, and particularly appropriate: Nic Cage as Mola Ram!
- Trailer for an intriguing-looking YA fantasy movie called Lost for Words.
- A gallery of photos of the toys and games presented by Hasbro at the Toy Fair. I'm particularly amused by the Iron Man 2-themed version of Operation.
- Sounds like Fringe is in danger of being cancelled. There won't be any TV shows left that I look forward to watching regularly if that one goes.
- A video anthology of werewolf transformations. Slightly NSFW.
- There's going to be a third Riddick movie. I'm not sure how to feel about this news. I loved the first movie, and although the second one had a lot of problems, it did have some great ideas and a great ending. So I'll remain cautiously optimistic for now.
- Neil Marshall's got a new movie on the way called Centurion, about a small band of survivors of a brutal attack on a Roman legion trying to escape enemy territory and make their way home. Here's the trailer. Eh. Could be all right. Although I'm not a big fan of the Romans being the good guys. (Via)
- The latest Let's Be Friends Again takes my favorite page of Siege #2 and makes it even better. If only this could happen in real life.
- Mike Mignola was brought in for a week to lend a hand on pre-production designs for The Hobbit. Yay!
- Amusing stop-motion animated video made using T-shirts.
- A thorough examination of the Toy Story 3 trailer and all its Easter Eggs. Totoro has a cameo! (Via)
- The official website for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is live. (Via)
- Heh. Concept art for an imaginary McDonalds-themed video game. (Via)
- Posters and other bits of art Photoshopped to give them a Star Trek theme. (Via)
- Leonardo Da Vinci, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Yes, This is a real thing Marvel is doing. I'm vaguely interested. (Via)
- Images and video of a Cabinet of Dr. Caligari puppet show.
- A space cat riding a dinosaur. Now that's a T-shirt!

- I follow Stan Lee on Twitter, but somehow missed these tweets of his that io9 highlighted, wherein he gives a plug to the upcoming Ant-Man movie (directed by Edgar Wright), as well as supposed future Marvel films about Iron Fist, Doctor Strange, and Black Panther.
- A gallery of the weird and fascinating art of David Jien.
- I don't quite follow this article, but it sounds like we can blow up cancer cells from the inside with lasers, which is pretty awesome.
- The first four covers of The Return of Bruce Wayne, featuring Time-Lost Batman.
- Sounds like Warner Bros. is asking Batman guru Christopher Nolan to help reboot Superman, which seems like it could be a good idea. Exactly what part he'll take in any new Superman movie (probably not director, but maybe producer?) is not clear, but somebody needs to fix Superman, that's for sure.
- Danny Glover as Captain Ahab in a film adaptation of Moby Dick where the whales have been replaced by dragons, and which also stars Vinnie Jones? YES!!
- It's a moonbow! A rainbow caused by the moon! Crazy!
- A sausage roll stuffed with a cheesy double beef burrito from Taco Bell! Nice.
- Yesterday I posted hot pics of the star of one sci-fi show I watch, so here are hot pics of the star of another sci-fi show I watch! It's Anna Torv of Fringe! (Via)
- A plush Boba Fett, and the first in a planned series of Star Wars-themed Imperial pin-ups.
- Lost LOLCats.
- H.R. Giger Tarot card deck. (Via)
- New Muppet music video, starring Beaker vs. YouTube commenters!
- In South Korea, robots star in plays! (Via)
- Tom Cruise is coming back for Mission Impossible 4, but it sounds like J.J. Abrams will probably not be back as director. However, writing duo Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec of Alias fame are involved.
- Steven Soderbergh's next movie will be an ensemble action-thriller called Contagion. The idea is that it would be a cross between the Bourne movies (in fact, the script was written by the co-writer of The Bourne Ultimatum) and Traffic, and it'd involve interweaving stories set on four continents during the outbreak of a deadly virus. The cast includes Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Marion Cotillard. Sounds vaguely interesting, except that Traffic was really pretty dumb.
