Infernal Affairs
 by Fëanor

Finally got around to watching this movie, which I received from Netflix who knows how long ago. I'd heard great things, but I have to say, I was not very impressed. There's something about Hong Kong films that I just don't like that much. For one thing, they almost always get all mawkish, melodramatic, and corny - and this one was no exception. Complete with black and white, slow motion flashbacks with soft, sad music playing in the background. Barf!

It's too bad, because up until right near the end the movie is pretty decent. It's the story of a cop who goes deep undercover in the mob, and a mobster who goes deep undercover in the police, and the crazy intrigue they engage in in their attempts to survive, stay hidden, and ultimately find and identify each other. (The title had led me to believe there might also be demons involved, but sadly that is not the case.)

Anyway, there's some pretty exciting and tense sequences, some funny bits, and some okay acting and so forth. But some of the things the characters do don't make much sense, and then there's all that corniness I already mentioned. Overall, I rate it a solid "Eh."
