I forgot... |
by Fëanor |
...we also saw Who Killed the Electric Car? which was very good, though also of course incredibly enraging and infuriating. Confirmed me in my hatred of Bush's government, Big Oil, and Big Business in general. I'm pretty convinced we could have the perfect alternative fuel developed and all our environmental problems solved if we just put the necessary energy and time and money into it. But that hasn't happened because there's this huge mechanism set up to make money the old way, and it just keeps making more money as time goes on and oil grows more scarce, so there's no incentive to change anything. Short term thinking rules the day. Still, the movie does manage to end on a positive note of hope for the future. There are people fighting to change things, and the world itself is changing in ways that will soon make it impossible for the big oil machine to continue working the way it has. We just have to hope it breaks down before the world does.
The point is, you should see the movie. It made us feel guilty to be driving home in a filthy, polluting, gas-powered car! |
