These continue to elude me. I'll keep an eye out for them, but I suspect a special request form at Fat Jack's and an order or two on Amazon will be necessary to collect them all.
The Spirit #3
The latest issue of this is coming out this week, but I'm still not entirely convinced I want to collect this entire series, so I'm just going to look for older issue #3 and see how that one strikes me.
The Amazing Screw-On Head
This is a Mignola one-shot that actually got turned into an animated pilot for a TV series. The pilot was fantastic; I saw it online way back, and poppy and I just rented it off Netflix recently. It was good to see again, and even funnier and cleverer than I remembered. Plus, they nailed Mignola's style beautifully. Anyway, I figured it'd be cool to have the original book.
Gotham by Gaslight
This is yet another Batman story by Mignola, collected into a TPB and now considered to be the first of the Elseworlds stories. This time Mignola pits the Caped Crusader against Jack the Ripper. Um, YES. Definitely need to pick this up.
Green Arrow: Year One #1
I had been avoiding this one, as I was rather disappointed in the most recent Green Arrow stuff I read, and because it sounded like a lame copy of Batman: Year One. But EverMike, my comic book advisor, recommended it to me; it's by the same guy who wrote The Losers, which I picked up volume one of the other day, also on his recommendation. So I can totally blame him if it sucks.
New releases
Shazam: The Monster Society of Evil #4
I was pretty damn excited to see that this was finally coming out this week. #1-3 of this series by Jeff Smith are some of my favorite work in the illustrated fiction medium so far, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how this comes to its conclusion.
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #22
This series is on parole, so we'll see if I end up dropping it after this book. Pretty much all the modern Spider-Man books have been pretty disappointing to me. Although actually, now that I think about it, I believe they're retiring Friendly Neighborhood and Spectacular pretty soon, anyway, as part of their plan to start running Amazing three times a month. Well, we'll see how that works out, and we'll see if whoever takes over Amazing after JMS leaves can do something decent with it...
Captain America #28
The book with the name of a dead guy in the title continues! Looking forward to seeing what kind of ruckus the Winter Soldier can get started this issue.
The Order #1
Very much looking forward to this one. It's a new monthly from my old pal Matt Fraction about the crown jewel superhero team in Iron Man's Initiative. Should be interesting...
Catwoman #69
I know I said that I was dropping this one, but... this is the last book in the "Catwoman Dies" story arc, and I figured, what the hell?
The Hood Premiere
This one sounds quite neat. It collects #1-6 of a series about a superpowered petty criminal by Brain K. Vaughn. I like Vaughn, and the concept is intriguing, so we'll see where this goes.

It's World War Hulk time again! All these titles are connected to the WWH storyline. I seem to remember that Front Line #1 wasn't all that exciting, but I have high hopes for the other titles. (Interestingly enough, World War Hulk: Gamma Corps #1 is also on this week's release list for Wednesday, but I already found it and bought it on Sunday. They're releasing comics early now? WTF?) |
