Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (no spoilers) |
by Fëanor |
After reading on and off since I got it at a little after midnight on Friday going into Saturday, I've just finished the book, at about 2:30AM.
I guess I felt pretty confident, after reading 6 again, that Rowling would be able to pull off 7 well, even given all the incredible hype, and even given the fact that this would be the conclusion of the series, and that it would be without the usual structure of the school year to hold the plot together, and thus very possibly the most difficult of the books to write.
And, as it turns out, my confidence was justified. This book is the crowning achievement to a truly excellent series of fantasy novels. It is far better than I had even hoped it would be. It is masterfully written, incredibly moving and engaging, hilariously funny, and full of deep and powerful insight. I'm trying to come up with a word to describe the amount of admiration I have for J.K. Rowling right now, and I just can't. Suffice it to say, she is amazing, the book is amazing, the series is amazing. I'm glad we own the whole thing - all the books - because I'm going to want to go back and re-read them all again, definitely. Maybe every couple years or so. Along with The Lord of the Rings. Yep, I'm putting it up there next to those books.
But now, damn it, I have to get some sleep! You've kept me up late for two nights in a row, Rowling! |
