Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock |
by Fëanor |
I haven't tried any of the multiplayer features yet, but the career mode is challenging and exciting even on Medium difficulty level. I'm still getting the hang of the guitar battle mode, but I love the concept and it's definitely fun. The music is fantastic, top notch stuff. The videos I've unlocked and purchased have been really interesting. And I've found and purchased this game's best character: Metalhead, the robot on a quest to destroy all that is lame, with a laser gun guitar. Even the animated logos and title sequence at the beginning of the game are awesome, as are the wordless, but expressive, animated sequences in between song tiers/gigs. I also like how they've actually tried to even further mimic the rise of a band through the ranks, with the first tier simulating you playing somebody's backyard party, and the next tier being your first real gig as the opening band at a bar, and then there's the video shoot and the gig at the prison, and so on.
The negatives would be that the screens after you've completed a song are just poorly done copies of the same screens in Guitar Hero II - they definitely could have spiffed that up a bit. And yeah, it's not really all that different from previous versions of the game in general. But previous versions of the game were really good, so what can you do? All in all, I'm very much enjoying it, and look forward to beating it on Medium, and attempting the game on high skill levels. I'm also looking forward to trying some WiFi competition, as soon as I can figure out how this whole Wii Friend thing works. (Speaking of which, Nintendo did most things right with this console, but they sure screwed that part up. Could they have made it any more difficult and counter-intuitive to figure out how to get connected to the online Wii community? C'mon, guys.) |
