Fëanor's weekly comic book wish list.
Back issues and old data
Astonishing X-Men Volume 3: Torn
Batman: The Doom that Came to Gotham #3
Black Summer #0
Heavy Liquid
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind Volume 3
Star Wars: Dark Times Volume 1 - Path to Nowhere
Wisdom #1
ZombieWorld Volume Two: Winter's Dregs and Other Stories
The usual suspects.
Black Summer Alpha
I was poking around Avatar's website and came across an entry about this book. It's #0 and #1 of Warren Ellis' Black Summer collected together in one book. If I can't find #0 separately (and I'm beginning to think it's impossible), I'll have to pick this up, even though I already own #1 separately.
Fell: Feral City Volume One
Fell is another ongoing Warren Ellis series I only just became aware of. Might as well grab the first TPB and see how it is!
The Goon Volume 3: Heaps of Ruination
I just bought the second volume of The Goon on Amazon, so it's time to add Volume 3 to the list.
Mouse Guard: Winter 1152 #1
Mouse Guard: Winter 1152 #2
As threatened in the last edition of The Take, I'll be collecting the new Mouse Guard series in issues now. It looks like only the first two entries in the Winter 1152 series have been released so far, so I'll be looking for them. I don't think they'll be too hard to find; I think I saw them on the shelf in Atomic City last time I was there, actually.
New releases
Astonishing X-Men #24
If Wikipedia is to be believed, this should be the final regular issue of this series written by Whedon, with the current story arc wrapped up in February in a special one-shot called Giant Size Astonishing X-Men #1. Then Warren Ellis takes over. I'm very excited to see how Whedon closes things up, and to see where Ellis takes them next, so that's all good news to me.
Dan Dare #3
This series about Britain's military space hero isn't blowing me away, but it is keeping me interested, so I'll be picking up the next issue this week.
Highlander: Way of the Sword #2
I can't believe I'm actually going to buy a second issue of a Highlander comic book, but #1 was really pretty okay, so...
The Order #7
The Order is the only book left by Matt Fraction that I'm still collecting, and that's because it's the only one that has yet to let me down. So please, don't let me down! This issue will apparently feature our intrepid team leader facing off against Namor with the fate of the world in the balance, so it should be interesting!
Ultimate Iron Man II #2
This series seems to be taking a bit of a melodramatic/political turn, but I'm sticking with it for now, especially since Iron Man and War Machine are apparently going to turn against each other in this issue.
Usagi Yojimbo #109
I'm just getting this issue because I want to see how the current story arc ends. Then I think I'll be dropping this title, as I've realized it really never has excited me very much.
World War Hulk Aftersmash Damage Control #1
Another Aftersmash miniseries begins, this one apparently focusing on the rebuilding of NYC after Hulk's rampage. The other Aftersmash titles have been a pleasant surprise, and I'm hoping this one will continue the theme.
X-Men: First Class #8
This is another title I might be dropping soon. It's usually fun, but rarely terribly interesting or exciting. Perhaps the best word for it is "lightweight." We'll see, though; maybe this issue will change my mind.
Young Avengers Presents #1
This is the first issue of a new miniseries bringing back a recently introduced team of younger heroes who each have a connection to a member of the original Avengers. Each issue will focus on a specific member of the team and be written by a different author. This first issue focuses on Patriot, a Captain America/Bucky kind of guy, and is, appropriately enough, written by the guy who's on Captain America at the moment, Ed Brubaker. This series sounds like it could be quite lame; it will probably at least vary a lot in quality from issue to issue, for obvious reasons. But you never know. Might as well give it a shot. |
