The Eccentricities of Floyd |
by Fëanor |
Our greyhound Floyd has various odd habits that I thought it might be amusing to list. Enjoy!
- The areas of the condo that Floyd refuses to go into have changed over time, but at the moment forbidden zones include the dining room, the kitchen, both bathrooms, and the back porch.
- When exiting his room, Floyd will on no account turn left. If he wants to go to the left from his room, he will first turn right into our room, turn around in there, and then go straight out and down the hallway.
- When happy and excited, Floyd is likely to:
- Sneeze
- Stretch
- Snort and rear up on his hind legs like a horse
- Whine
- Yawn or "meow" (often when yawning Floyd makes a little whining noise that I call meowing)
- Wag his tail in a circular, windmill-like motion
- The number of times Floyd has barked since we've gotten him can be counted on one hand. The few times he's done so, it's startled me so much I've yelled aloud.
- Floyd engages in an activity popular among greyhounds called hoarding. This means he likes to carry his toys and rawhides, one at a time, to the area on and around his bed, until he is surrounded by a great pile of them. Sometimes he sleeps right on top of them, like a dragon. Other times, he will only lay on the small corner of the bed that is not covered by toys. And still other times, there are so many things on the bed that we will find him whining and upset because there's no space for him to lay down. *facepalm*
- Floyd often likes to sleep curled up in the most ridiculous positions, with one front paw crossed over the other, and one back paw crossed over the other, like a little dog pretzel.
- If you rub his ears the right way, Floyd will emit a strange groaning/growling noise, often followed by a sneeze.
- If you rub his rear end the right way, Floyd will bend himself nearly in half.
