The Bitter End
 by Fëanor

I love the idea of turning our backs on the president, like a bunch of Klingons turning out one of our number in dishonor. Fantastic. And yes, Star Trek was the first thing I thought of when I read that. You got a problem with that?

Salon has an interesting article on video games in 2004 that is really just a series of short comments from industry insiders. It's pretty neat, and multiple folks mention the crazy-fun Japanese concoction that is Katamari Damacy. It's entertaining to watch and to play, and is super disturbing happy joy lucky!

I just finished reading We Have Always Lived in the Castle, and I thought it was quite good (although poppy would beg to differ). It's kind of like a ghost story told by one of the ghosts, and the ghost is really quite pleased with its existence, and a bit confused as to why people are so fascinated and frightened by it.

Basically there's a weird old family with murder in their past living in a weird old house in a weird little town, and our narrator is the weirdest of the weird family, a strange little girl who's lived a very insulated life and has developed a very odd understanding of the world and how it works--to her it is a strange and magical place that can be transformed if the right rituals are performed. I find her perspective interesting, and the language quite lovely. The book lags a bit in the middle, but finishes strong.

Work is winding down a bit as we approach the holidays. Most of my big projects are done or waiting for approval. I have plenty of personal projects I want to work on, of course, so hopefully now I'll get a chance to work on them. Christmas approaches slowly and yet quickly. It's only Wednesday, but also, it's already Wednesday?! Ah, well.

I could talk about this ridiculousness of people demanding that we put the Christ back in Christmas. Somebody mentioned it at work, and I suggested a new holiday in which we commemorate the feeding of Christians to lions by once again feeding Christians to lions. But talking about all that will just get me all worked up for no reason. So I'll just say people are stupid and ignorant and bigoted and leave it at that.

That's what I call holiday spirit!
