Not much going on. Or at least, nothing blog-worthy. Except, the latest Penny Arcade amused me. And this article in Salon is pretty interesting. It's an interview with a fellow about his book on postmodern culture, which posits that we live in a completely mediated world. We have choices available in almost every aspect of our lives, and we are constantly performing (what with our reality TV shows and our blogs). We are constantly being contacted and flattered by ads and the media, which has been true for decades, but now we're aware of that, and the media is aware that we're aware, and so on and so forth. Anyway, interesting article.
Can you tell that I'm feeling rather tired and dull? Well, I am. Sorry, folks.
On the up side, KotOR 2 continues to be very entertaining. And today I started preparing for a new role playing campaign, this time using a rules system designed by TrackerNeil, who will also be GMing. It's a streamlined system put together by someone who's tried out a lot of systems and knows what works and what doesn't, and what makes sense and what doesn't. There's also what looks like a pretty interesting setting and backstory, and an introduction that promises plenty of zombies. So today I was getting all excited, building my character and such. It's a very pleasant, very nerdy activity.
TrackerNeil's universe does not include Halflings, but according to information obtained in the real universe by real people, those Hobbits were smart.
In other weird news about humans, turns out you can tell how aggressive a guy is likely to be by his fingers. So, everybody look at your hands. Here's something I don't get about this article: what do they mean by second and fourth fingers? Are they counting the thumb? And where are they starting--from the pinky, or what?
And finally, say what you want, but I think it's pretty cool that somebody went around the world in a plane without stopping or refueling, even if it was just some rich guy. I admire our ability as human beings to do amazing things (with science!), even if those things are kind of meaningless. |
