It's a Day Late... |
by Fëanor |
...but only because I spent so much time reading, so now I have double the things to talk about. I'm about a third of the way through the book, and it's so strongly a part of my thoughts now that when poppy and I went to Old Navy for some shopping, I bought three shirts mainly because they reminded me of the banners of various Westerosi households - I'm wearing the yellow lions on a gray field today (for Lannister), but I've also got multi-colored dragons on a blue field (for the Targaryens), and a black and white deer's head on a violet field (for the Baratheons). Hear me roar!
Anyways, without any further ado, the Feast for Crows spoiler of the day (highlight to read): The title of the book nearly appeared in a Kraken's Daughter chapter when Lord Rodrik said, "We had one king, then five. Now all I see are crows, squabbling over the corpse of Westeros." We lost some of those kings, but there are more to come it looks like to me - and queens, too. The blind and stupid Soiled Knight is totally being used and doesn't see it. He mentions the Kingmaker; he'll be known as the Queenmaker in the White Book, I suspect. And speaking of the Kingmaker and the White Book, what is Jaime playing at, reading that passage and mentioning it so pointedly? What is he scheming? Is he angry enough at Cersei to try to replace her (and Tommen)? She'll fight him to the last on that. She likes the power she's gained far too much to give it up.
I don't know if Jaime would do such a thing, though. Maybe he just suspects what Oakheart is about to do down south.
Cersei's revealed that the old woman she mentioned earlier was some witch who foretold that she would be queen, but lose her power to a young beautiful woman. She's afraid that's Margaery, but I'm betting on Dany.
Holy crap, Lady Olenna is awesome. The tongue on that woman.
Is this Nimble Dick character that Brienne has foolishly given so much money and trust to actually just the Alchemist/Jaqen in yet another guise? He flicked the coins along his hands just like the Alchemist did, and our author made sure we noticed it. But if so, what is he doing here, and who is the fool and the two girls he's talking about?
It's so agonizing to see Brienne get sidetracked! She was headed for the right place - the Vale - and now she's going to turn aside! Damn it!
There are rumors of the Hound making violent raids on the towns - but how did he survive? Who found him and healed him? Did Thoros bring him back? But if he did, I can't imagine Dondarrion and his outlaws letting the Hound run amok like that. They're outlaws, but they're not into the violent raping and pillaging so much. Did they just lose control of the Hound after bringing him back, or is something else going on here?
It's interesting that of the terrible things Tyrion said to him before he left, the ones that gall Jaime the most are about who Cersei slept with. He hasn't thought hardly at all about Tyrion's lie that he killed Joffrey, Jaime's son.
I love that Bronn named his son Tyrion. That's just awesome.
The Onion Knight's in jail and facing execution?! Martin better not the hell kill that fantastic character off-stage. |
