A bonus, final, and incredibly long spoiler of the day |
by Fëanor |
Progress: Complete.
Spoiler of the day (highlight to read): Wow. I mean, wow. Jaime's handling of the Riverrun situation was truly excellent. The way he dressed down Ryman Frey, and then his speech to Edmure Tully - fantastic. He's way smarter than I gave him credit for.
As for Cersei, she is brutal and terrible and stupid. I really can't believe what she's doing to Margaery. But God bless George for the gratuitous lesbian sex.
I really want to play cyvasse. They should totally license somebody to design that game.
I thought maybe Myrcella was dead there for a while, and she might be soon after all. That would be another step along for Maggy's prophecy.
Gasp! Arianne was promised to Viserys! And now Prince Doran has sent Quentyn to wed Dany (if I read the end of that chapter correctly)! The Prince has some interesting plans for Dorne after all. He plans to side with the Targaryen Queen and help her retake the Iron Throne. I say again, wow.
Sansa is becoming quite a clever, dangerous little woman. She and Arya both are learning to lie and manipulate from masters of the arts.
Wait a second - how come the news they got at the Eyrie is that Riverrun yielded, but Dragonstone still holds for Stannis? I thought Sir Loras took Dragonstone for the Lannisters! Could that all have been lies somehow? Cersei's only been told that Dragonstone was taken...and she hasn't actually seen the injured Loras... But maybe I'm getting ahead of myself; they probably just got old news from Dragonstone... But still...
Ah, Ser Shadrich's at the Vale! Brienne should have stuck with him after all.
Hah - I like the harsh words Petyr has for Cersei. Three queens, he says. Cersei is one, of course, perhaps Margaery another, and the third...Dany? Does he know she's coming? I wouldn't put it past him.
Or maybe he's referring to Sansa! Finally his whole plan is made clear. I thought Littlefinger's ultimate plan was to wed Sansa himself and thus make a claim, through her Stark blood, for Kingship, or at least lordship of the north. But no, he means to wed her to Harry the Heir. What a scheming conniving bastard he is! How I love his black, black heart!
He still needs Tyrion dead, though, and that may prove more difficult than he hopes.
So Brienne finds herself with Lady Stoneheart's gang. Beric gave his life to Catelyn. That chapter is the most horrifying and depressing thing I've ever read. The outlaws were like Robin Hood's band before, but now they're a bunch of mad avenging demons. Is this really the way Brienne and Podrick are going to die? But what is the word she screamed - did she yield at the last moment? Will she kill Jaime? I need to stop for a while...
...but not too long. I wonder what the story is with Lady Merryweather's son? Cersei keeps telling her to bring the kid to King's Landing, and Merryweather keeps demurring. Why? Yeah, I'm thinking Taena's not as loyal as she appears.
Woah, Margaery! "You vile, scheming, evil bitch"! Awesome! Yeah, Margaery's got that right. She knows what's going on.
Holy crap, they whipped Osney and broke him! Cersei ran for it! They caught her at the altar of the Mother, how appropriate. Wow, this whole thing with the church broke apart on her in a much bigger way than I even expected. Oh my God, it's all in chaos now, everything's blown up on her. Pycelle and Harys Swyft in charge! Mace Tyrell coming back in anger! Waters running away with her fleet!
Has Qyburn been making a Frankenstein's monster in those dungeons or what? A demon knight?
Oh, man, Cersei wants Jaime as her champion? Holy crap.
Who says nothing happens in this book?! It's crazy!
The Westerlings are an interesting bunch. And man is Ilyn Payne creepy.
Hah! I love Jaime thinking of making Petyr Baelish the new Hand of the king. How Petyr would love that! How he'd laugh!
OMG, the singer is Tom o' Sevens!!! I'm certain he's the one who told the outlaws where they could get Ryman and his band. He's totally going to open up Riverrun for them, too.
Jamie's leaving Cersei out in the cold. Damn.
Snow is falling, and you know what that means: Winter is coming.
Finally, after waiting the whole book, we're back in Oldtown. Wow, there's some interesting stuff going on here. Factions - one for magic and dragons, and one against. And they have seeing stones!
Pate?! But Pate died! WTF?! Is it Jaqen? But why would he take Pate's place... Oh, man. What a way to end the book!
George is the master, and I bow before him. |
