Rivers and Parking Lots
 by Fëanor

  • Am I dreaming? Wait, let me pinch myself... No, I'm awake. And yet, this post about a Scottish Kung Fu Knight Rider movie still exists! The world is a blessed place indeed.

  • But to get serious for just a moment: I hate us. Seriously, what is this shit? I wouldn't really blame the rest of the countries in the world for ganging up and taking us down. Our government is truly despicable.

  • Okay, back to the fun: Jack Black as Nacho Libre. I know there's been high Jack Black content on this blog recently, and I apologize for that. But...I think he's funny. Especially when he wears silly Mexican wrestler outfits.

  • Time for another round of Batman casting rumors! This time it's the Penguin, and the name floating about is Bob Hoskins. Dude, that would rock. I love that guy.

  • I love this idea Joystiq is proposing: creating a video game canon, to match the Western literary canon. They suggest calling it the "Western Cannon," which is pretty silly, especially considering that most of the great games that we love over here in the West came out of the East, but the point is, we need to educate the youngsters, keep them aware of the classics that came before. Much discussion about what should be included has already taken place in the comments to Joystiq's post, but I'd like to add my two cents here.

I'd say you've got to have Street Fighter 2, Metroid and Super Metroid (I was just saying to poppy recently, as she gamely pretended to be interested, that Super Metroid is probably one of the best games ever made, if not the best), Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Robotron 2084, Pac-Man, Space Invaders and/or Galaga, Tetris, and okay probably Pong, and I guess we need one of the classic FPS's so maybe Doom, and then you've got to have a Final Fantasy or two; you know, all the big watershed classics. A number of guys suggested Katamari Damacy, but I was thinking the canon should probably only include games that have been around long enough (say, 10 years?) to really cement their reputations as classics.

  • Finally, enjoy my offensively titled Phillyist post on the Bond marathon at the ICA.
