Jumpman vs. Cutman |
by Fëanor |
- In today's "Around the Web" post, The Movie Blog has links to a few interesting stories, including this one about the launch of the official site for an upcoming film called Sex Machine (which is not about pr0n, but actually about some dude who gets his limbs replaced and his memory erased, and must unravel the puzzle behind these disturbing events before the ones he loves get the same treatment, or worse), and this one about a remake of the classic thriller Gaslight. Insert the typical outrage over the remake of a classic film right about...here.
- The totally fascinating story of Henry M., a man frozen in time. He had radical brain surgery in 1953 to cure his epilepsy, and now he can only remember events before the surgery. As in Memento, he has to constantly be reminded of what has happened to him in the intervening years, and is constantly forgetting it. He can be taught tasks, which he can then perform well in the future, though he can never remember having done them before. It's a sad and strange story, but very interesting, and his predicament has helped a great deal to advance our understanding of memory and the brain. (Via Backwards City)
- No, Sony! Not Qrio! Not cute little Aibo! Oh, the humanity! I mean...oh, the robotity!
Of course, it also sucks that 10,000 people lost their jobs. But selfish bastard that I am, I just keep thinking, "What does this mean for the future of the PS3?!"
- Passion of the Christ 2: The Prequel is on its way! Well, okay, not exactly. But New Line has purchased the script to a film called Nativity about Mary and Joseph and the birth of Christ. Any hopes I had that this might be good kind of went out the window when I read that the author was also responsible for Finding Forrester and Radio. Admittedly, I saw neither of those films, but I feel comfortable hating everything they stand for anyway. They're just the kind of mushy, feel-good, teach-you-something-about-yourself-and-humanity movies that are only made because they're way too much like other movies that did well in the past. Yuck.
- Hamas wins landslide victory - I don't know how you feel about the politics of the Middle East, but personally I don't see how this could possibly be good news.
- Report: U.S. Reconstruction in Iraq Poorly Planned - Um...you think?!?! How did you come to that conclusion, Einstein? Anybody who still thinks the U.S. government is efficient and organized should pull his head out of his ass and look around.
