- If you have not been to the Windows 95 Tips, Tricks, and Tweaks Tumblr yet, you are missing out on something seriously disturbing and hilarious. Here is a representative sample.
- Pretty cool collection of GIFs highlighting the major characters from Return of the Jedi.
- Speaking of GIFs, I still deeply love flux machine. A couple of vaguely recent entries. That long, anxious moment as you wait for the GIF to do something creepy might be the best part.
- 72-year-old grandfather models women's clothes for his granddaughter's clothing line. Pretty bad-ass.
- Great redesign of Darth Vader.
- Here's an idea for a new James Bond film: Idris Elba as James Bond and Tom Hiddleston as the villain. All kidding aside, that would be amazing.
- Some great classic monster movies got redesigned posters on Reelizer lately. Here's The Mummy, a couple of Frankensteins, and an Invisible Man.
- You probably already saw this amazing photo floating around somewhere or other (like on any or all of my social media platforms). But have you seen the Spockified version??
- Brad Bird was forced to confirm on Twitter - numerous times! - that he is not directing Star Wars VII. Ah, well. It was a lovely dream while it lasted.
- Heh.
- Maybe people will finally wake up to the dangers of climate change when wild coffee starts going extinct? What a horrifying thought.
- Pretty amazing photo. And they went to a lot of trouble to get the shot, so worth a click.
- Fun toy roundup on Super Punch. Tis the season and so forth.
- Reimagining Snow White as an anarchist.
- A Stardust the Super Wizard action figure! There's a Kickstarter to make this a reality.

- Dude, my friends wrote a book! You can buy it! You should buy it. Buy it now!
- One of my favorite of the recent posts on Reproductive Ryan Gosling. My very own poppy is a co-founder and contributor!
- Awww, look at the tiny Avengers! So tiny!
- A little goat! Hopping! On a bed!
- I love Marion, and I love Raiders of the Lost Ark, but... yeah. Baskets. *facepalm*
- Female Holmes and Watson.
- Blue And Bluer celebrates one of the great film classics, Grosse Pointe Blank.
- Some Game of Thrones humor.
- A little Daily Show for you.
- Heh. Poor Michelle.
- SANDWICH POLICE. That is all.
- Now here's something you can base a system of government on!
- Can't remember if I posted this before, but it's worth a repost if I didn't: Elmo and Grover as Street Fighters.
- An old script for an episode of the original Star Trek that was never filmed is going to get turned into a webisode by the New Voyages crew. Nice!
- There are birthday cake Oreos? Where can I get them?!
- Oh hey, it's that time of year again! March M.O.D.O.K. Madness!
- I kind of want this bird nest bed.
- Some pics from, and a new trailer for, Men in Black 3. I want to like this, because the original Men in Black is such a great movie, but... I just don't know.
- Another movie I want to like is John Carter. You can watch ten minutes of it right here. I was hoping to be really impressed by this, but despite some clever moments (and an inspired choice of when to cut short the clip), I could take or leave this movie.
- Some really cool props from Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor are up for auction.
- Cool Star Wars crayons.
- Cute Saruman figurine. All right, maybe cute isn't the right word, but whatever, I like it, is the point.
- Wow. Mike Mignola did a book cover for Heart of Darkness. Two great tastes that taste great together!
- I've mostly soured on the whole Simpson-izing thing, but these Simpsons versions of Scooby and Shaggy are fun.
- Look out! Tiger Batman!

- Fun with lyrics!
- A wonderful animated gif of an amusing moment in one of Mr. Eddie Izzard's stand-up routines.
- A real, solid, scientific explanation of why cats purr.
- Mr. Hipp mashes up Star Wars and Super Mario Bros.
- Ridley Scott explains the connection between Alien and Prometheus. I'm still a little confused, but okay.
- The evolution of "Weird" Al.
- We can print robot dinosaurs now?? Awesome.
- Here's a computer case made to look like Link.
- Amazing, gigantic Lord of the Rings family tree. (Via)
- Tongue-based computer controller!
- Hey, that dude from The Killing might be Robocop.
- A couple of interesting pics of Benedict Cumberbatch on the set of Star Trek 2. Looks like he's getting the ol' neck pinch!
- When I heard they were re-releasing the universally reviled Phantom Menace in theaters in 3D, I was really curious what kind of audience it would have. I mean, everybody says they hate this movie! Why would anyone pay extra to see it again in one more dimension than before? Then again, it's Star Wars. Star Wars has a certain cache. And nerds are famous for paying for things so they can then complain about them endlessly. Plus, there's the kid factor. Kids don't know they're supposed to hate The Phantom Menace. Well, looks like the nerd and kid factors won out, because the 3D version made $73.4 million in less than two weeks and pushed the movie's overall box office total over the billion dollar mark to make it the 11th highest grossing film of all time. Wow.
- Speaking of Star Wars, here are some rejected Star Wars products. Also, in the upcoming Star Wars game for Kinect, there will be a Slave Leia dance-off.
- Cute Wizard of Oz cupcakes.
- Here's a little boy piloting a mecha suit.
- I love this stamp.

(Last updated on Friday, February 3, 2012 08:43 PM) | Terrible Dad Jokes |
by Fëanor |
Since even before my son was born, I have been engaging in the time-honored tradition of Dads everywhere by telling him strange, pointless stories and awful, unfunny jokes, and giving him completely useless advice. I've decided to inflict some of this on you. Enjoy.
- "Hey, you must be Two-Foot McGee! I can tell because you have two feet!"
- When attempting to get the child to put his arm in a sleeve: "Hey buddy, who's your favorite character actor from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine? That's right! Arm-in! Armin Shimerman!
- "Don't lose your Han Solo. Daddy lost his Han Solo once and he never got over it."
UPDATE:
- "Why are the people of the planet Wars so clean all the time? Because they're always Wartian!"
- "Are you a dude? Do you have dude powers? Were you bitten by a radioactive dude?

- The resurgence of animated GIFs was funny... at first. Now it's starting to wear on me. Tumblr is just full of them! Full, I say! But this one is funny.
- Some really wonderful pics from The Big Lebowski blu-ray release party.
- Pretty great reimagining of the cover of the classic video game Bad Dudes.
- An interesting post about a book called The Unofficial LEGO Minifigure Catalog.
- Drawn linked to a couple of neat art sites: Spencer Goldade's 365 Abstracts and Graham Annable's website.
- The top 100 sci-fi/fantasy novels, as voted by the readers of NPR. As usual with such lists, there are things on here I like and things on here I don't like. But I definitely approve of the top pick, natch.
- The latest episode of Awesome Hospital is pretty amazing.
- A first look at Pottermore, the new interactive online Harry Potter world.
- I've heard good things about Ready Player One. It's the first novel from a fellow named Ernest Cline, and it's "about a dystopian future where gamers fight to control the future of their virtual world, the OASIS." io9 has the first two chapters free to read on its site.
- io9 also has a list of fun upcoming sci-fi comics, including a Star Trek/Legion of Superheroes crossover book from IDW and DC. Woah!
- Did you see the latest Immortals trailer? Holy crap! Yeah!
- We've got a US release date for the next Wii Zelda game: November 20th.
- I know there are countless altered/parody versions of Edward Hopper's Nighthawks, but... well, here's another one. It's fun! There are monsters!
- Hipster Thundercats.
- Heh.

- Some people are doing it right!
- A book of nursery rhymes in comic form by a bunch of famous cartoonists.
- Jaws as a Peanuts-style comic strip.
- What to expect from season 4 of Fringe. Exciting stuff!
- The Mars rover Opportunity is still running, finally arriving at its original destination, and getting ready to search for life.
- The School Board of Republic High School in Missouri banned Slaughterhouse-Five from the library, so the Vonnegut Memorial Library offered to provide a free copy to any of the 150 students who were originally supposed to read it.
- Along with the already existing nine (9!) film versions in development, there is now also a TV version of Frankenstein in the works. Naturally it is a "modern-day take" on the story. Oy.
- The Radiohead remix album is coming in September.
- Sam Bosma shows off a great commission piece featuring Lady Macbeth.
- Neat piece of Lovecraft-inspired art.
- SETI had to shut down its search for alien life back in April, but it's starting up again next month thanks to generous donations.
- It's nice to hear that J.J. Abrams would like to add a gay character to Star Trek.
- Apparently Disney announced it would be releasing two more Marvel movies in 2014 - one on May 16, 2014, and another on June 27, 2014 - but it's unclear who or what they'll be about.
- Blastr collects 24 wild and crazy newspaper headlines from sci-fi TV and films.
- 10 fictional games recreated in real life. I can't believe anybody really tried to play Kosho from The Prisoner. That crap was crazy, yo.
- T. Rex dressed as Batman.
- Scientists say spoilers don't really detract from your enjoyment of entertainment. Also, Rosebud was the name of his sled.
- The trailer for a modern-day update of Shakespeare's Coriolanus. Looks good!
- The descendants of snakes that escaped from the set of Raiders of the Lost Ark still roam Elstree Studios. That might be my favorite story of the week.
- An infographic of everyone killed by Jason in the Friday the 13th movies, including the method of their murders. Note that these are only the people killed by Jason, so the first movie is not included.
- Exhumed Films is doing their 24-hour Horror-thon at the iHouse again this year. Maybe someday when the kid is old enough I'll go to this with him. Assuming it's still happening then, and the kid likes horror movies, and doesn't mind being seen with me, and I'm still capable of sitting in a movie theater chair for that long without permanently injuring myself.
