- Gifs from Bonniegrrl: two sets of Empire Strikes Back gifs, Metropolis, The Young Ones, Sir Giles of Buffy, and... yeah, I don't know what's going on here.
- Speaking of gifs, here are some unspeakably cute ones of a wombat and a cat and his boy.
- A tiny Santa hedgehog. Eeee!
- Awesome photo of awesome dogs.
- I deeply love this hateful cat.
- Scientists are working on a new RNA-based vaccine that could wipe out the flu forever. Amazing stuff!
- The Max Fleischer Superman cartoons are pretty fantastic, and you can now watch them all on YouTube, legally and everything!
- More cuteness for you, straight from the source (Cute Overload).
- Partly as research for my novel, and partly just because I like them, I've been reading tons of fairy tales and folk tales lately. So I was kind of excited to see that a big-screen, Hollywood adaptation of Jack the Giant Slayer was in the works. But I should have figured that in the process of creating such a thing, they would have added all the typical big-screen, Hollywood trappings to the story. Corny catch-phrases, lame love story, overwhelmingly huge action set pieces, bombastic rhyming prophecies, tons of special effects. Oy. This trailer is just gross.
- Homemade cardboard Star Destroyer!
- I particularly love the second piece in this Super Punch art roundup.
- I really love the sweet and funny Darth Vader and Son by Jeffrey Brown, so it's pretty cool that he's doing a sequel called Vader's Little Princess. There are even holiday-themed downloads!
- I never got into Lemony Snicket, but I've heard great things, and we do have a book we really like written and illustrated by Jon Klassen, so I'm curious about this book that the two of them are collaborating on, The Dark.
- I'm fascinated by devices like this for some reason: a lamp that tells you the weather by recreating it inside your house. (No, it will not actually make it rain.)
- Andrew W.K. has been named the U.S. cultural ambassador to Bahrain. FYI. So they will be partying hard there soon, I assume. UPDATE: Somebody somewhere apparently realized this was kind of a crazy idea and cancelled the whole thing. The world is a sadder place now.
- Ironically, the most frustrating thing about watching this collection of the craziest fake ads from movies is all the real ads stuck in between.
- Holy crap, you guys. NASA is working on a faster-than-light warp drive.
- How to make a fairy room in your house. Awesome idea.

(Last updated on Sunday, March 4, 2012 01:44 PM) | Floyd |
by Fëanor |
True story: when I pulled up to the kennel where I was going to hand over Floyd to his new owners, Soul Asylum's "Runaway Train" came on the radio. You know, the one with the video about lost children? I was like, you've gotta be kidding me.
As you may remember from previous posts, for a long time now (wow, those posts are from over three years ago!) we've had trouble with our greyhound Floyd peeing in the house. Well, lately he's just been getting worse and worse. Every day, multiple times a day, we'd come into his room and find puddles, or - even better! - piles, of waste. He even took to laying in his pee and... well, I won't go into further detail, but suffice it to say, Floyd and his room were both continually a smelly mess. There was just no way to keep them clean. Besides being just plain disgusting, it was not a healthy environment in which to live, and to raise a child. And ever since our son was born, we've had a lot less time for the dog. It had basically become an untenable situation for all of us.
Thankfully the organization we adopted Floyd from is serious about taking care of these animals and asks that if you ever think of giving up your dog, you please contact them first so they can take him back, find a foster home for him, and hopefully get him adopted again by someone else. We'd considered doing this a number of times over the years, but never got up the nerve. It's hard to give up a dog you've had for so long, even one as weird and gross as Floyd. But recently, for whatever reason, we just hit a point where we couldn't deal with it any longer, and poppy and I agreed it was time for Floyd to go. I called the place, and they called me a few days later to let me know they'd found a foster home for him. I dropped him off this morning.
It was hard to do, and we can't help feeling a bit guilty about it, but I think it was the right thing for all of us. Griffin liked the dog, but he never really developed a relationship with him. After all, he wasn't able to pet the dog or play with him, partly because Floyd was usually too disgusting to touch, and partly because Floyd would run away from him whenever he got close. So Griff might be upset for a little while that the dog is missing, but I think he'll get over it quickly. As for Floyd, we had some good times with him, and I hope he has a happy rest of his life. I think he will. He's going to get to be with other greyhounds now, and with people who have more time, energy, and resources to take care of him. I bet he won't even pee in his new house. Much.
P.S. Most of Floyd's stuff is not in any shape to be used again and we're just trashing it, but we do have a couple of dog toys that are mostly untouched, food and water bowls that can be cleaned and reused, some bandages, and some nail trimming equipment, so let me know if you're interested!
P.P.S. Oh, and also pee pads, of course!
P.P.P.S. Also also, a large bin on wheels for holding pet food. Has a capacity of over 50 pounds, so good if you have a large dog or lots of cats.
P.P.P.P.S. Also also also, that damn song is really stuck in my head now. |

- Want to make a clever single-serving website, but don't want to buy the domain name and go to all the work of setting it up? Tom Boutell has the answer! Now I just need to come up with an idea for a clever single-serving website...
- Some wonderful Dune art. I particularly like the illustration of the "Fear is the mindkiller" speech.
- I'm just going to put this here: "Nanogenerators powered by your heartbeat could replace batteries in five years, say chemists."
- Heh. This Fake Science Tumblr is pretty funny. And it just got a book deal!
- The folks at io9 have seen the first 40 minutes of Cowboys and Aliens, and they give it a thumbs up.
- It seemed odd to me that Dillinger's son appeared in Tron: Legacy, but never really took part in the plot. This cool little video explains his presence by suggesting that he, and the Master Control Program, will indeed play a part in the next Tron film.
- Hey, a new entry on hipster puppies! And it's very funny!
- Enrique Alcatena does it again. Here are some amazing splash pages for a series following the adventures of a bad-ass dandy living in an alternate version of 19th century England.
- Noted Batmanologist Chris Sims highlights 10 of the more insane and hilarious illustrations from a crazy Batman storybook.
- More great posters from Reelizer, this time for Raising Arizona and Wild at Heart.
- Wondermark reveals what happens to you if you eat one of those silica gel packets that tell you not to eat them.
- Apparently you can now put out fires with magic wands that shoot electrical pulses. I love the future!
- A wonderful sci-fi character growth chart.
- Let's get all the comic book movie news out of the way in one bullet point. Supposedly a Justice League movie could be here by 2013, and we're looking at the strong possibility of X-Men 4 and 5. Christopher Nolan is guarding the ending to The Dark Knight Rises religiously, and the Batman franchise is likely to get rebooted yet again once Nolan is done with it. I guess because his version wouldn't really allow for a Justice League movie? Finally, some new images from X-Men: First Class which do not in any way assuage my trepidation about this film.
- Peter Jackson is sticking more ladies into The Hobbit. Which is a noble goal and all, but still... you're rewriting my Bible, man!!
- Your first look at Andy Serkis as Caesar in Rise of the Apes.
- Oh man, I love the Lando Lakes butter wrapper.
- Creative use of the Facebook Like button.
- The last image in this roundup is my favorite. But then, I'm always partial to magic doors.
- Holy crap, a new Bunnies reenactment! Be sure to stick around to the end and watch the deleted scenes.
- There could have been an edition of The Hobbit illustrated by Maurice Sendak. So sad this didn't happen.
- Amazingly detailed, fan-created Muppet Show playset.

- Pixar is also involved with Epic Mickey! Could an animated feature film version be on the way??
- Stills from classic movies. (Via)
- The first five minutes of The Princess and the Frog. Not all the color and animation is complete, but you get a good idea. There's a lot of controversy swirling around this movie, and claims of racism. I don't know how qualified I am to speak to that, but this clip seems sweet and cute and mostly inoffensive to me.

- Fantastic animal portrait.
- Excellent punctuation tattoo. Semicolons rule!
- 21 sexy female stormtroopers.

- I enjoyed this animated comedy/sci-fi short, Danger Planet.
- Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will apparently be a loose adaptation of Tim Powers' novel On Stranger Tides, which features a trip to the Fountain of Youth.
- Eli Roth's next project is Endangered Species, which just might be a giant monster movie. Nice!
- Battlestar Galactica: The Plan is hitting DVD and Blu-ray on October 27th.

- 20 great pet costumes.
- Sci Fi Wire compares the new Doctor Who logo to the old ones.
- Geek Dad uncovers more plot holes in your favorite geeky movies in part 2 of his Top 10 Unanswered Questions in Geeky Movies. Some of these I'd never thought of before and are now really bothering me! Especially the one about Marty not disappearing in Back to the Future 2. The one about the Empire trying to kill the heroes on the Death Star can be explained by assuming that the tracking device plan was sort of a last minute thing, or more of a backup plan. But I'm glad somebody else is bothered by Obi-Wan "hiding" Luke with his family members, under his real name. That's bothered me for some time. It makes no sense. Spider-Man 2 is just one giant plot hole, so mentioning a specific issue is pretty pointless. (Sorry, I hate the Spider-Man movies.) But I think you can explain away item #1 by assuming that R2-D2 is an expert hacker, and #3 by assuming that the Force was taking a hand (which is kind of my standard excuse for nearly any plot hole I find in Star Wars).
- The U.S. military is already developing defenses against lasers and other directed energy weapons.
- "Gadget bloggers and Amazon.com reviewers now must disclose freebies and financial interests or face fines up to $11,000, according to rules announced by federal regulators Monday in an attempt to make word-of-mouth endorsements on the net easier to believe." Uh... does this mean when I talk about free music or free movie screenings, I have to mention that they were free?
- 7 good things Spike Jonze added to Where the Wild Things Are. I should perhaps mention now that I'm going to see this movie soon FOR FREE, and then review it here. I don't think the "free" part will really affect my opinion of it, but since it's the law and all...
- "Rumors are that, as part of the creation of DC Entertainment, DC Comics will move to LA, breaking New York's hold on the Big Two comic publishers for the first time ever." That makes me sad. The end of an era!
- An analysis of the major fast food chains' drive-through service. Chick-fil-A is the overall winner, and also takes the top spot in two of the four individual categories: order accuracy and speaker clarity. Click through for links to detailed charts. (Via poppy)
- A gallery of finalists from the 2009 Small World Photomicrography Competition. Amazing pictures of really tiny things!
- The latest Star Trek movie officially made the most money of any Star Trek movie ever.
- Netflix is planning a live-streaming web series called Splatter. It'll be produced by Roger Corman, directed by Joe Dante, and star Corey Feldman. Umm... wow. Okay then.
- 10,000 Hotmail, MSN, and Live.com passwords were recently exposed online, and an analysis reveals most of them are pretty bad passwords. The most popular? 123456. I mean, some of mine are pretty bad, but not that bad. That's the kind of combination an idiot would have on his luggage!
- Newly released results of tests conducted in the late 1950s reveal what should be an unsurprising fact: female astronaut candidates were just as qualified as, and in some cases even more qualified than, male astronaut candidates.
- The latest theory as to the identity of Jack the Ripper. This one sounds rather believable. (Via)
- A couple of amusing clips from Conan O'Brien where he gets a vampire assistant and a zombie assistant. (Via)

- A collection of concept art from recent science fiction reimaginings.
- Zombieland was originally supposed to be a TV series, so the writers already have ideas for about a dozen sequels!

- Click here and scroll down a bit for an amusing teaser for Bad Robot, which apparently has nothing to do with J.J. Abrams.
- A promo video and a couple of photos of Leonard Nimoy on Fringe. Apparently we'll see him again in tomorrow night's episode. Hooray!
- More details on Epic Mickey: it'll be Wii exclusive, and the story is about forgotten Disney characters who have grown bitter after years of being ignored and have thus spread evil black goo all over the world. Mickey has to use paint, thinner, and erasers to draw his way through the world. I like!
- Super Punch provides pics, and links to more pics, of some really cool LEGO vignettes, which include recreations of scenes from Indiana Jones movies.
- For a minute I thought this was a real PlayStation ad. I really wouldn't be surprised. Here are 43 more PS3 ads too offensive for even Sony to use.
- Cory Doctorow says "eat it!" to Ralph Lauren and their legal team (and also re-mocks a horrifically photoshopped Ralph Lauren ad); a Hulk/Wolverine mashup; and Thundercats cake and cupcakes. (Via)
- Gamer wine. Awesome.
- Is this Showgirls 2 website for real? It claims we've all been waiting for a sequel to the horrid original, and also that said sequel will be called Showgirls: The Story of Hope. Wow. All the site has on it at the moment is a lengthy video of truly poor quality featuring equally poor quality music, and nudity. So, yeah, NSFW. Also not safe for those with good taste. (Via)
- Watch a short film by Troy Nixey, the guy who's doing the remake of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.
- 3D TV is coming! Next year, even!
- Adrien Brody and possibly also Topher Grace are joining the cast of Predators. Interesting choices!
- Apparently Edgar Allan Poe's first funeral was a colossal disaster, so they're giving him a do-over on his 200th birthday (uh, why not on the anniversary of his original funeral?). And because there's not enough left of his actual body to bury, they're making a fake one for the purpose.
- A unique and impressive method of protest. (Via Dennis)

- At long last, after some frustrating stops and starts, the schedule for the 18 1/2 Philadelphia Film Festival is actually, really online. A lot of the movies are missing descriptions and plot summaries, which continues the general theme of frustration and incompetence, but there do appear to be some interesting things in here. I will have to peruse carefully at my leisure and possibly put together a schedule.
- Ah! Another freakout! You can control this one with your mouse. (Via)
- An amusing and unlikely mashup.
- A couple more of my favorite recent Animals With Lightsabers.
- Some pics and videos from the set of the Red Dawn remake, revealing some of the film's amusing set dressing, including crazy propaganda posters.
- This is terrifying: a video game where the aliens you're shooting are files on your computer, and when you destroy them, they're actually deleted!! To win you must destroy every file. If you're killed, the application itself will be deleted. I will never play this game, although I kind of love the concept. Oh, and the title? lose/lose.
- Slings that explain how you injured yourself, via handy pictograms.
- Yesterday's Daily Batman was a beautiful piece of art by Rafael Grampa.
- This is a brilliant piece of writing. I don't want to describe it, because part of the entertainment is slowly figuring out what's going on. Just click!
- A graph helpfully illustrating the Mythbusters method. Too true!
- How about a little peek at pure crazy? (Via)
- Pretty hilarious Facebook status updates by video game characters. (Via)
- Here's a site that will call your phone for you if you lose it, with the idea that you will hear it ringing and be able to track it down. (Via)
- A Zork walkthrough in the form of a rock song. Pretty brilliant. (Via)
- A unified theory of Superman's powers (PDF). I suspect you, like me, will not have the required time or knowledge of math and physics to read and understand the whole thing, so I recommend reading the Cliffs' Notes version at io9. It boils down to this: all of Superman's powers can be explained as the manifestation of just one power - "the ability to manipulate, from atomic to kilometer length scales, the inertia of His own and any matter with which He is in contact." I love it!
- 13 great portable games.
- The funniest foreign titles of American films. (Via)
- Pretty intense trailer for a documentary about Eddie Izzard. Might have to check that out. Izzard rules. (Via)
- The mecha power loader robot suit from Aliens is now a for-real thing! Kind of. (Via)
- Some Twitter clients already offer this service, but now Twitter itself is going to make an official version: Lists! (Via)
- A convenient list of all the free music on Amazon right now. Start downloading!
- The "How It Should Have Ended" for Terminator turns into a crazy mashup with Back to the Future. (Via)
- A wonderful letter from a librarian defending a children's book about gay marriage. It's really, by extension, a defense of all books, and a powerful statement against banning them. (Via)
- Photos of some of the oldest living things on Earth.
- Hugh Jackman is in talks to star in Real Steel, a movie about robot boxing in the future.
- It's a wrinkly dog!! The comparisons to Eleanor Roosevelt are a bit harsh, but the dog is terribly cute.
- Really, really awesome White Tree of Gondor tattoo. I WANT IT. I just don't want to have to sit through getting it. How can I reconcile these two desires?
- The pastasaurus! I want this, too.
- A bomb scare briefly interrupted the filming of The Green Hornet. And here's a look at Seth Rogen in costume.
- Another goofy reimagining of classic literature is on the way: Little Women and Werewolves. This has got to stop eventually. Right?
- An AT-AT school bus, and other amusing Photoshop art. (Via)
- "Like the X-men's Wolverine extending his claws, the Spanish ribbed newt slashes through itself with its sharp rib bones to create defensive spines, according to a new study." Awesome. (Via)
- A bunch of Stan Winston's props, costumes, and set pieces are going to be auctioned off next week, including full-scale Terminators! That'd be a nice decoration for your foyer. "Hi, how are- OH MY GOD THEY'VE COME FROM THE FUTURE TO KILL ME!!!"
- The hilarious and excellent South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut will be streamed online for free through October 28th right here. Also, that movie is ten years old now. That totally blows my mind. I'm so ancient! (Via)
- The seven greatest monsters in kid films. Good picks! Except... what in the hell is Purple People Eater?
- Ugh. I was hoping Ninja Assassin would be awesome (it's called Ninja Assassin, for God's sake!), but it sounds like it's pretty terrible.
- Surreal videos from the set of Christopher Nolan's Inception.
- The top ten future sports from movies.
- A creepy, all-clown Last Supper.
- Another pic from the set of The A-Team.

- io9 has 14 reasons why TV and superheroes don't mix. Aww, I remember liking The Flash! I haven't seen it since I was a kid, though, so maybe I was mistaken.
- A look at the most successful summer movies. Go Moon!
- And speaking of the moon, we could harvest water from old Luna by microwaving it!
- Uh oh: the new V could be in trouble. They're splitting the 13-episode first season in two, and holding the back nine episodes until midseason. Production is halted on the show, and the number of episodes may be reduced.
- io9 and Cinematical review Pandorum. io9 says it's lame, and Cinematical says it's quite effective. Hmm. I think I will have to see it for myself one of these days.
- There's still hope for a return of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, even if only as a direct-to-DVD movie.
- Ouch. The ratings for Dollhouse's second season premiere were not good. I'll admit I didn't watch it - until it hit the internet later. Are they counting internet??
- The plan for the future of FlashForward. I definitely need to see the first episode of this. Perhaps on the internet! The internet is the TV of the future, people. Oh and hey, check out the fun Lost Easter Egg in FlashForward.
- A frog with fangs that eats birds.
- I got to see the trailer for Book of Eli in the theaters when poppy and I went to see Surrogates the other day. You can watch it now online. This is a movie that I've been reading about and getting pretty interested in, but the ad really turned me off. I thought it was going to be an intense, surreal, cerebral, post-apocalyptic adventure, but it just looks like another big dumb action movie. Actually, this image sums up my feelings pretty well (via).
- Remember that cute, but also sad, video where the bulldog puppy is rolling around on its back trying to get up, but it can't? Well good news! There's a sequel where the pup finally succeeds in standing.
- Dude spent 2 years building a Dalek out of 480,000 matches.
- Ron Howard may direct a film adaptation of the comic book The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft, wherein Lovecraft must fight the monsters in his own stories as a sort of supernatural detective. I wasn't particularly interested in the comic (the concept's kind of old, and most of the Lovecraftian comics I've read have been pretty bad), but who knows, maybe a movie could work. Howard's certainly a talented guy, although this does seem like odd subject matter for him.
- Joystiq and Game|Life both got their hands on Thexder Neo. Sounds like it's just as difficult and frustrating as the original, if not more so! Other fun stuff from the Tokyo Game Show: a photo gallery focusing on the games, and another focusing on the cosplay.
- Xenomorph wedding cake! Awesome! And also twisted.
- Cool entries to a recent Red Bull Soapbox Derby.
- Fun (and perhaps slightly NSFW) Batman art (via). Also, a Victorian Batman, accompanied by other fun links.
- LEGO ship in a bottle (via) and LEGO Black Knight.
- I think I've seen apps that could do this before, but still, it seems handy enough to warrant another link: Dirpy let's you rip YouTube audio to MP3s.
- Interesting trailer for the new Nightmare on Elm Street. I was never really a big fan of the original (it's scary and clever, but I hate the ending), but this looks pretty neat. I'm also fascinated by the suggestion that Kruger might have been innocent of the crimes for which he was killed.
- A trailer for, and short review of, Takashi Miike's latest, a crazy action movie full of robots and superheroes called Yatterman. It's hard to tell much from the foreign language trailer, but Miike + robots + superheroes = must-see for me.
- J.J. Abrams is producing a half-hour medical comedy show for Fox. That's... odd. (Via)
- Seven more outrageously annoying tech videos to go along with that horrible Windows 7 launch party infomercial I posted the other day. I'm with them all the way on the Palm Pre commercial with the creepy lady staring at you. What is with that, anyway? What were they thinking? Sometimes I wish advertisers would just run their commercials by me first before airing them.
- Pretty startling charts illuminating the death of newspapers. (Via)
- Interesting trailer for the Syfy TV movie adaptation of Riverworld.
- Cool Darth Vader T-shirt graphic.
- Is Super Street Fighter IV on the way?
- "Where the Wild Things Ought to Be" Photoshop contest. (Via)

- Before today's big Apple press event, the company dropped prices on old iPod models. Here's the run-down on everything announced at the press event. Nothing really exciting as far as I'm concerned; I'm still waiting for an iPod Touch with something like 300GB of space. Although I'm sort of looking forward to iTunes 9, as it's supposed to be better. Any improvements to the hideous beast that is iTunes are greatly appreciated.
- What's Dragon*Con really about? Costumes! Here are some steampunk Star Wars costumes (via), a fun general gallery of costumes, and a wonderful Spidey Sense costume.
- A lovely The Beatles: Rock Band Limited Edition hand-painted and numbered Xbox 360 console (via). The game is being released today. Underwire lists 5 great Beatles tunes included in the game, and 5 great tunes that are not included.
- There are some legal challenges being raised to the Disney/Marvel buyout. But in the meantime, Joe Quesada is teasing a big announcement about the merger which is going to hit Comic Book Resources within the hour. Also, it looks like DC is going through its own shakeup (via).
- Various sites got together and agreed that today would be a day without cats. Here's Cute Overload's page about the whole thing, and here's I Can Has Cheezburger's act of defiance.
- Sci Fi Wire smells a resurgence of the sci-fi western on the horizon, thanks to the upcoming films Cowboys & Aliens and The Dark Tower.
- Nicolas Cage was going to play a villain in The Green Hornet, but thankfully it sounds like he dropped out. Whew. Dodged a bullet there.
- Joystiq got its hands on Star Trek Online; here's the report.
- Listen to an excerpt of Nick Cave's new novel The Death of Bunny Munro, read by the man himself, accompanied by some of his own music. It's rather filthy, but also quite excellent.
- It's time for the final showdown in Cinematical's Best Superhero Movie of All Time Tournament. The choice is clear, and the best man is winning.
- Find out how much radiation your cell phone is exposing you to.
- Severed gecko tails have minds of their own! Aaahh!
- Guillermo del Toro says he'll be making a big announcement soon about something non-Hobbit related. Uh... then why should we care??? Okay, okay, it might be something cool even if it's not about The Hobbit. Although I don't see how.
- All T-shirts are $9 at Threadless today. (Via)
- Our fat could save us after all! Turns out it's a good source for stem cells.
- A while back Wired launched an experiment: they had a guy named Evan Ratliff disappear, then challenged everyone to try to find him. Well, he's been caught. Here's how.
- The hierarchy of digital distractions. (Via Dennis)
- U.S. citizens will soon be able to log into government websites using their Google account info. There's also support for Yahoo, OpenID, and Information Card.
- This trailer for Up in the Air is nothing short of amazing. My favorite trailer in a long time, and it's not even for a genre film! Not as amazing, but also intriguing, is the trailer for Timur Bekmambetov's Black Lightning, which can be found at the bottom of this post.
- The upcoming alien invasion movie Battle: Los Angeles sounds interesting, especially with star Aaron Eckhart comparing it to Alien.
- I was sad yesterday about the Gundam going down in Japan, but now it looks like another giant robot is going up in South Korea.
- A guy avoided getting fined by wearing animal masks when his photo was taken by speed cameras.
- Cuteness! A French Bulldog puppy trying desperately to get up, and a bunny checking things out.
- The latest news on the new Judge Dredd film. Will Danny Boyle be directing??
- A surprisingly good trailer for a Plan 9 From Outer Space remake, plus an examination of all the movie coming out this year with the number 9 in the title.
- Doing her own stunts has taken its toll on Rose McGowan, but apparently she is going to do that Red Sonja remake eventually.
- Velcro made of steel!
- A kid in an awesome LEGO Boba Fett costume. (Via)

- Click on the top right box on this page and you can watch an hour long documentary about Jack Kirby. I rarely have a full hour to spare to watch a video on the internet, but I made time for this one. Very interesting. (Via)
- Listen to Christopher Walken read Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven." By the way, it's a pet peeve of mine when people misspell Poe's middle name as "Allen," and the makers of this video did just that. Gah! (Via)
- The top ten of the 70 most iconic Marvel panels of all time. (Via)
- An excellent political comic on the whole "Obama talks to school kids" fiasco. (Via)

- This is the way bad Syfy movies start: scientists in Florida have lost an underwater robot. It's gone rogue! (Via)
- Speaking of bad Syfy movies, a while back I mentioned the horrific Syfy movie Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus. I made the mistake of trying to watch the entire movie, but lucky for you there now exists a "good parts" version on YouTube. This way you can just see the funnest and most ridiculous scenes without having to sit through the entire thing. You lucky bastard. (Via)
- It doesn't matter what you said, Freddie Mercury is right. (Via Camden)
- See the world like it's an FPS. (Via)

has stopped selling the season one DVD set "because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here." (UPDATE: The DVD is now back on sale.)

- Pics from the set of Green Hornet. (Via)
- Interesting: J.J. Abrams had to throw his long-term plans for Fringe out the window and move up his time table because the fans were already figuring out where the story was going. (Via)
- Sounds like those Redbox kiosks could really be hurting other movie rental services.
- Favstar integrates with Twitter and provides an interesting, in-depth look at people's favorite tweets. (Via)
- In case you didn't know, you can stream the original Prisoner online for free at AMCTV.com. (Via)

- Ooh, the other Super Star Wars games are out for the Virtual Console, and one of the new WiiWare titles is Contra ReBirth. Tempting...
- PAX was this weekend. Joystiq got to check out the clever explicit language settings for Brutal Legend, learned about a Penny Arcade ping pong card game that's in development, and discovered the identities of more playable characters in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.
- Joystiq gives The Beatles: Rock Band a very positive review.
- More on Diablo III!
- The guy who did that cool next gen Xbox concept art now unleashes his creativity on the next PlayStation.
