- Hey, so this is cool. It doesn't really seem to signal any major change in policy, and it is coming a bit late, but still: the President said he thinks gay marriage should be legal. It's a step. A nice, big, symbolic step.
- That comedy special that Louis C.K. sold on the internet for five bucks, thus altering the universe, is airing this weekend on FX - in an edited form, of course.
- Kind of an unfortunate time to have a lawsuit going against the Beastie Boys. Apparently the boys will be okay if they have to settle, though, seeing as how their records are selling like hotcakes.
- Speaking of the Beastie Boys, here's a cool mashup of them and the Beatles; it's called the Beastles.
- Argo looks/sounds like a pretty amazing movie. Here's the trailer. It's based on a true story about a CIA plot to sneak some Americans out of Iran disguised as the film crew for a movie that didn't exist. They even brought in Jack Kirby to do some concept art.
- Ron Howard, at least, still thinks there's a future for his Dark Tower movie.
- That's some bad-ass stuff right there.
- Apparently a German art student has hand-illuminated and bound a copy of The Silmarillion. Looks amazing.
- Here's the cover of Warren Ellis' next book, Gun Machine. Looking forward to it.

- President Obama will be on Mythbusters tonight. GeekDad lowers expectations about the episode, but says it's still a good one.
- A set of photos of action figures of Doctor Who villains hanging out in various real-world locations. (Via)
- A kick-ass music video for one of the best tracks on the Tron: Legacy soundtrack, "Derezzed." It features cyber-jousting! (In case you missed it, I named the Tron: Legacy soundtrack one of the top ten albums of 2010.)
- NASA's much-hyped arsenic life form announcement may have been a bunch of hooey. Disappointing!
- Somehow I only just realized this, but A.V. Club is doing a holiday version of Undercover. That means they're bringing ten artists into their weird little round room to cover ten holiday songs. Example: here's Kate Nash and her band doing a rather lovely cover of "Merry X-Mas Everybody."
- My friends, here it is, the pinnacle of our achievements as a species: the trailer for Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus. This film features Robert Picardo and Jaleel "Urkel" White. Astounding.
- Syfy must have liked the pilot for Alphas, that show about ordinary people who gain superpowers, because the network just ordered 11 episodes.
- December means lots of end of year best of lists. Here's A.V. Club's picks for the best music of 2010.
- Witness the ridiculousness that is a 149-hit combo in Super Street Fighter IV.
- Blah Blah Blah: The Video. A celebration of blah blah blah in movies and television.
- An impressive compendium of Super Mario glitches. Many are accompanied by handy animated GIF demonstrations. (Via)
- The "Song of Healing" from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, performed on wine glasses.
- Casino R'lyeh Cthulhu Mythos Poker Cards.
- Here are a couple of links that I already posted to Twitter, but couldn't help reposting here. First off, some fun travel posters for comic book cities. Next, some amazing casting news for The Hobbit: Cate Blanchett is returning as Galadriel, and Sylvester "Seventh Doctor" McCoy will play Radagast the Brown. Of course, the fact that Galadriel and Radagast are showing up means we're going to get to see the meeting of the White Council that happens "off-screen" in the book, during one of the various times that Gandalf splits from the company to do his own thing. I have to say, I am VERY EXCITED about this!! Plus, the Doctor is going to be Radagast! Awesome.
- A sampling of some of the great art up for auction on eBay in support of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.
- Super Punch highlights some great photography, including these shots of weird mushrooms, and this one of coral.

- Dude, this Star Wars-ified version of Jay-Z and and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind" is amazing. (Via)
- The Gorillaz have released a digital bundle of their song "Superfast Jellyfish" which includes a computer game called Escape To Plastic Beach. More at the band's website. (Via)
- I'm not entirely clear on what it is, but apparently the folks at the LHC have done something new and exciting. (Via)
- io9 has some pretty amusing guesses as to what might be in an ancient and mysterious 1,000-pound lead coffin that archaeologists unearthed on the outskirts of Rome.
- More details on that anthology of Firefly stories that's on the way.
- Another American Godzilla movie is set to be released in 2012. Hopefully it will have nothing to do with the horrifically awful 1998 Roland Emmerich version.
- Some enterprising fans couldn't wait and Photoshopped Chris Evans into the Captain America costume so we could all have a sneak peek as to what he'll look like.
- Sounds like Iron Man 3 might be coming even sooner than expected - like, even before the Avengers movie.
- More Last Airbender footage! We've got the Japanese trailer, a new American TV spot, and a silly promo for the Teen Choice Awards featuring a couple of the stars of the movie.
- A new Sorcerer's Apprentice trailer. There are a couple of dumb things in here, but a lot of cool things, too.
- An amusing comic, in which a child finds the fallacy in a popular saying, but ultimately buys into it anyway.
- A new trailer for LEGO: Harry Potter Years 1-4.
- A couple collections of links to photos of President Barack Obama looking at awesome things. (UPDATE: here's the full set!)
- How about a free download of a track off Amanda Palmer's latest insane project, an album by fictional conjoined twin pop stars Evelyn Evelyn?
- Rachel Weisz could play the main villain in the next Bond film.

- You just have to watch the video above. (Via)
- A couple of particularly amazing recent entries on the wonderful photo blog, Black and WTF.
- One of my favorite authors, Connie Willis, has a new book out called Blackout. It's set mostly in 1940s England, and it's about one of her favorite subjects: time-traveling scholars getting trapped in the past and interfering with history. It's the first part of a two-part series, and apparently it might be better to wait until the second one comes out, this fall, before reading the first.
- DC might really be moving forward with sequels and spin-offs of Watchmen, most likely without the help or approval of the original creators. Everyone agrees this is a terrible idea.
- The magma-hot writing team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci just signed a three-year deal with Fox. I assume this means they'll be launching a lot more shows for that network. They'll also be opening up their own TV production company. (Via)
- The annual simulation in the latest iteration of the Madden video game predicts that the Saints will win the Super Bowl. I'm not sure who to root for myself, but I suspect it will be a great game.
- An amusing Aliens/Space Invaders mashup image. (Via)
- These posters for both the original and remake of The Wolf Man are amazing. (Via)
- Yay, the Fat Wonder Woman Blog started posting again!

- I am seriously loving Animals With Lightsabers, you guys. The video above comes from this post, and here's a great image that recently blazed across the internet, now lightsaberized.
- The headline is "Banana Thief in Gorilla Suit Not Charged." The story itself doesn't really make things any clearer. (Via)
- A wookiee with a puppy. (Via)
- Need some white noise? Here you go. (Via)
- Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift at the MTV VMAs blew up into a meme pretty much instantly. Here are a few collections of amusing parodies/mashups. You can also have Kanye interrupt your site using kanyelicio.us (via). Check it out.
- The 25 greatest cult TV shows ever. Some good ones in here, like The Tick, Buffy, Doctor Who, The Prisoner, Firefly, The X-Files, Venture Brothers, Veronica Mars, Farscape, MST3K and Police Squad. I don't really understand why I love Police Squad so much, and yet at the same time dislike the Naked Gun movies, but there you go. (Via)
- A review of the script for Joss Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods. I started reading it, since I was promised it would have no spoilers, but it kind of does, so then I stopped. But I think they liked it. (Via)
- Dollhouse promo photo outtakes. They're not the funny, "Oops, I fell over!" kind of outtakes. They're just more, perfectly good photos that they apparently didn't use for some reason. (Via)
- Using giant light cannons to decorate mountains! Awesome. (Via)
- A brilliant, wonderfully understated poster for Jurassic Park.
- Tim Burton is trying to reassure people that his Alice in Wonderland will be perfectly tasteful and Disney-fied. Ugh. I hope he's wrong, or lying!
- Ridley Scott and John Logan, the director and writer who teamed up for Gladiator, might re-team to adapt a vampire novel to film. Cool!
- I'm shamefully excited about The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Here are a couple video previews of the theme park. There better be a lake with a giant squid in it, or I'm gonna want my money back! Finally, although io9's article about the park doesn't really contain any new information, it does have a truly priceless picture of Putin shaking hands with Dobby, and so I link to it.
- Super Punch is doing a new art contest: the horror of Star Wars.
- Cool Darkseid action figure.
- Looks like Jessica Biel is joining the A-Team.
- The first five minutes of Brutal Legend. \m/
- Wonderful Muppets/Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas mashup. (Via)
- Somebody made a song out of the "WHOSE RESPONSIBLE THIS?" meme. It's pretty good! (Via)
- Pretweeting is a game where you buy and sell stock in Twitter trends. (Via)
- A new clip about Surrogates.
- Bunnies, available in three different levels of fuzziness.
- Dinosaur van.
- Facebook has over 300 million users, and is now making enough money to cover its costs. Meanwhile, Twitter was valued at $1 billion and picked up another $50 million in venture capital. Wait a minute... you can make money on the internet??
- The cover, and the alternate cover, for an upcoming one-shot Buffy comic focusing on Willow. One of the covers features a naked lesbian embrace! Huzzah!
- Proof has been found that Earth-like planets can exist outside our solar system. Sweet! Now we just need to figure out a good way to emigrate to one of them before this planet becomes completely uninhabitable.
- Cute Overload has found the ultimate puppy video, and some fantastic animated gifs.
- Video of the D23 presentation about the revamping of Star Tours, including a thrilling video preview of what the ride will be like. They included that bit of the Star Wars soundtrack that gives me chills every time, so I'm sold.
- Dude killed a robber with a samurai sword. I knew there had to be a practical reason to own a sword!
- A video tour of the Marvel Entertainment offices, hosted by editor-in-chief Joe Quesada. (Via)
- Check out this 90-second teaser of the Fringe season premiere, which airs tonight. Exciting! (Via)
- These must have been difficult and painful to pick out: author Dan "Da Vinci Code" Brown's 20 worst sentences. (Via Dan)
- A video playlist of Mythbusters' 10 strangest myths.
- Dude, you get to have a lightsaber when you become president? I totally made the wrong career choice.
- I've posted a number of these My Little Pony superhero mods before, but some of them are new to me, and they're all cool, so... (Via)
- D&D: The Soda. (Via)
- Scientists have cured monkeys of color blindness via gene therapy. (Via)
- Did you know all these people were doing voices for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs? It's a crazy group of celebs.
- Cool concept art that imagines mutant bugs taking over Moscow's subway system.
- "Future Space Explorers Could Commute On Interplanetary Gravity Highways." Sweet!
- Future visions of today's cities. Dude, where's Philly?
- The top 10 most corrupt mayors from science fiction.
- Mostly positive reviews of Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.
- Awesome custom toys. (Via)
- LEGO paper and pencil, and LEGO "This is not a pipe."
- Plush mounted animal heads.
- Illustrations of unusual ways in which curiosity could kill a cat. (Via)

- Now you can order pizza from your PS3. This is a huge step forward in human evolution, people.
- Google has a plan to let you custom-print millions of public domain books. Very cool.
- As everyone knows, there's a ton of music on the internet. But is there an easy way to access it all? Wired found some cool sites in that vein.
- An extremely useful web page, especially today (which has been declared Talk Like Jabba the Hutt Day by Agent_M): the Jabba the Hutt Soundboard! (Via)
- The dollar bill has a Legend of Zelda Easter Egg! (Via)
