- An amazing, 11-minute, Spike Jonze-directed, Beastie Boys music video starring action figures in all the roles. It features zombies, a yeti, a shark, and plenty of the old ultra-violence.
- Guillermo del Toro is doing a Beauty and the Beast adaptation starring Emma Watson, who is disturbingly hot.
- Here's a video from Toyota showing off their concept of a car window as a touch-sensitive smart device. Woah.
- I don't have the time to read it just now, but maybe you do: Neil Gaiman's short story "The Truth Is a Cave in the Black Mountains." I like the title, anyway. (Via)
- Here is an astonishing product: glow-in-the-dark rats that you can wear on your fingers, which are advertised as "Ideal for NIGHT BLOGGING."
- Remember Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake's "History of Rap" medley from a while back, and how it was way better than it should have been? They've done another one, and if anything it's even better.
- Here's the trailer for the new Spider-Man movie. Can't say I'm too impressed. The dude playing Peter Parker looks ridiculous (what is with the two-foot high haircut?), and dragging his parents into the story seems unnecessary. That being said, the first-person shooter-style final sequence is pretty exciting. I assume that's what the video game version will be like?
- Take a gander at the craziest experimental weapons of the 19th century.
- Concept art from the third Riddick movie.
- Helena Bonham Carter is joining Johnny Depp on the cast of The Lone Ranger.
- Speaking of casts, here's the latest casting news for season 2 of Game of Thrones. We now have Stannis, Melisandre, and Davos. I'm not familiar with any of the actors, but they all look right, at least, and everybody else on the cast so far has been so great, it's hard to imagine they will be bad. (There goes the rumor that Eccleston will play Stannis. Ah, well. Maybe he'll show up as Balon Greyjoy.)
- I am intrigued by this short story collaboration between Lev Grossman and Mike Mignola - even if the only other prose collaboration I've read by Mignola was not so good.

- Oh man, I'm not going to have to subscribe to yet another art jam blog, am I? Bristolwhip's current theme is tattoos, and this piece by Jemma Salume is amazing.
- Dan Hipp imagines a Dirty Harry vs. zombies movie. Check out the impressive cast and credits at the bottom of the poster!
- Finally, an ad featuring actual clips from Steven Spielberg's Terra Nova. Looks like Jurassic Park crossed with Avatar.
- io9 takes a look at public domain superheroes, including Thor. All these are fair game as subjects of your next comic book/novel/poem, so have at it!
- A nice big poster showing off the large alien cast of Green Lantern.
- Awesome new clip from Thor featuring Thor's allies fighting Destroyer, plus the Japanese trailer, which has even more exciting new footage.
- Science creeps slowly closer to being able to erase memories.
- Big Boi is collaborating with Modest Mouse on their new album?! That's an interesting combination.
- I haven't watched Aqua Teen Hunger Force in a long time, but I used to really enjoy the show. Now comes the news that the show is changing its title, its setting, its premise, and its theme song! Maybe. Sort of. Just click through and listen to the meat puppet. Oh, and guess who did the new theme song? Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age!
- Somebody dressed up a broken urinal as Darth Vader. Man, I love street art.
- I've seen this link a number of places now, and it really is interesting, so I'm just going to break down and post it: "Overthinking Star Wars: The Economics of Death Star Planet Destruction." (Via)

UPDATE 1:
- I wasn't going to mention this, because it's kind of old news, but just in case you haven't discovered it yet, behold the genius and awesomeness of Axe Cop. It's a sci-fi/fantasy/action web comic written by a 5-year-old and drawn by his 29-year-old brother. It is pure, wild, unfettered imagination - insane, hilarious, and fantastic. There are many, many episodes already, so it's taking me a while to catch up, but somehow it just keeps getting better with every episode I read. Check it out.
UPDATE 2:
- The guy who played the French master thief in the Ocean's movies is playing a real master thief in this movie. Looks good. (I don't remember where I got the link.)

- A trailer for a kinda creepy, kinda sad-looking robot love story by Spike Jonze called I'm Here, sponsored by Absolut. (Via)
- How about this whole 3D revolution? I guess that Dreamworks guy was right about it taking over. Anyway, looks like Tron Legacy will be using 3D only in the scenes set in Tron's world; Clash of the Titans might be converted to 3D; and we could see Ghostbusters 3 in 3D, too.
- Somebody worked out the science of those thruster rockets that R2-D2 whips out in the prequels (even though he never used them later on in the original trilogy, which makes no sense) and found that for them to work the way they appear to, R2 would need to weigh only 100 grams. Whoops. Of course, the Star Wars movies also feature sound in space, so it's not like George was ever that concerned with being true to physics.
- Frank Darabont will be adapting the zombie comic The Walking Dead into a TV series for AMC. I'm getting a little tired of zombies, and I never read the comic, but the fact that Darabont is involved is interesting.
- The new Conan the barbarian has been cast, and he will be played by Jason Momoa of Stargate: Atlantis.
- The 1,000 greatest films, as voted by "critics, filmmakers, reviewers, scholars and other likely film types." All the usual suspects, pretty much. Generally good picks, although I have my usual quibbles (I still don't get what's so great about Some Like It Hot or Breathless or Night of the Hunter, and so on). (Via)

- MTV is planning to do a Dawn of the Dead TV series.
- Star Trek 2 has a release date, and it is June 29, 2012.
- A woman named Blake Lively, who looks like this, will be playing Carol Ferris in the Green Lantern movie.
- The folks at io9 list five directors they wish would do science fiction, and I have to agree wholeheartedly.
- More samples from that Masters of the Universe art show.
- I'm not usually a fan of sweater vests, but this one I like.
- Why does NBC hate its own programs? Their sci-fi series Day One has gone from being an ongoing show, to a one-season show, to a miniseries, and now it's just a TV movie.
- Updates and details on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and The Sorcerer's Apprentice: Feeling Naked Without a Subtitle.
- That is one impressive cookie. (Via)
- The LEGO Universe trailer is very cool.
- Snazzy-looking motorcycles.
- Amazing sculptures based on movies.
- Techland picks the best of CES 2010. (As an aside, for some reason I really, really hate Techland's insistence on writing a post that's basically a lot of filler with a link to the actual content. Just give me the list right off the bat, for God's sake! Anyway, that's why I'm linking directly to the list, to save you from my aggravation.)
- Techland picks some underrated sci-fi movies. I agree that these are all very good films, but I'm not sure they're all underrated. Aren't critics always going on and on about Dark City and Silent Running?
- Uh oh. Trouble in Asgard? Stuart Townsend, who was going to play Fandral, has left Thor over the usual "creative differences." They've already replaced him with Joshua Dallas.

- Above, the Muppets return to wish you a merry Christmas, via song and violence.
- Have I mentioned lately how much I love the art of Paul Pope? Here's an interview with him, plus a gallery of some of his work. Be aware there is some minor illustrated nudity.
- I haven't posted a lot of the "best of" lists I've been seeing, because most of them have been lame, but this one seems pretty good. It's meant to be the best sci-fi and fantasy novels of the decade, and the three books on it that I've read I really loved (those being Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, A Storm of Swords, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix).
- I kind of love this revolver remote control, although it doesn't sound particularly functional, and could very well get you in trouble with your neighbors and the police.
- Um... hot.
- New movie posters! The Iron Man 2 one is okay, but it's the Clash of the Titans posters I'm really excited about.
- A couple of images from the new Day of the Triffids.
- Wow, this is crazy: Richard Kelly is apparently going to direct the movie of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, with Natalie Portman starring and producing.
- The early reviews of James Cameron's much-hyped Avatar are mostly positive. Word is his next job will be to produce a 3D remake of Fantastic Voyage.
- Video of a pretty awesome combination secret door/bookcase/model of Han Solo in Carbonite.

- A glimpse of the new TARDIS interior.
- Various charts about space, spaceships, and monsters!
- Here's a fascinating study about how people with extreme opinions reinforce their opinions. Love the graphic.
- io9 picks some B-string monsters that deserve a turn in the limelight.
- Tons of pics and a new trailer for The Wolfman. WOW. This looks GREAT!
- Crazy pumpkins with steampunk and Twitter (via) themes.
- The rumor flying around the internet lately is that George Lucas is planning a brand new Star Wars trilogy that would be filmed in 3D and directed by folks like Steven Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola. I feel like this might have come out of somebody misunderstanding Lucas' plans to re-release the original trilogy in 3D, but hey, you never know. Despite everything that happened with the prequels, I have to admit, I'd totally go see new Star Wars movies - especially if they were directed and/or written by someone other than Lucas.
- Video of a dude launching an anvil with gunpowder. Awesome.
- Here's a website all about a really big LEGO castle. (Via)
- Impressive stop-motion video of someone building a large papercraft model of Link.
- Really cool chart of every mission to Mars.
- Sci Fi Wire provides 8 reasons why Cirque du Freak isn't your usual vampire movie. But Roger Ebert is exceedingly unimpressed by the film (via).
- Pics from Trent Reznor's wedding. (Via)
- Stream entries from the European film archives for free. And legally, even. (Via)
- The worst and weirdest vampire merchandise. The baby doll is horrifying, but the glow-in-the-dark Blacula soap is kind of awesome. (Via)
- No more Dollhouse until December after tomorrow night (via). Lame! Although, it does make it easier for me to catch up... Anyway, Joss says not to worry.
- Portable ultrasound?! Wow! (Via)
- Amusing Queen album cover parody featuring monsters. (Via)
- Zombie SNES!
- The Windows 7 Whopper, with 7 beef patties (via). Yes, apparently this is a real thing. Good lord. While we're talking Windows 7, here's another amusing parody of that horrible Windows 7 party infomercial: Hosting Your Windows 7 Torrenting Party (via). I think my favorite part is the very last line of dialog. Other Windows 7 links include Wired's positive review of the OS and 7 things you should know about it from Gadget Lab. Also vaguely related: a look at those Microsoft retail stores. Turns out they're a lot like Apple's retail stores. That's just sad.
- Pretty impressive music video which autotunes quotes from various famous TV shows and movies to turn them into rhyming lyrics for a catchy techno track. (Via)
- Sounds like George R.R. Martin might get a cameo in the Game of Thrones pilot. (Via)
- A speed bump that raises or lowers depending on your speed.
- A first look at the rich kids' academy in Caprica.
- The Big Bang Theory will feature a cameo from a (possibly nude!) Katee Sackhoff! Man, I really am going to have to start watching that show at some point, aren't I?
- Looks like there might not be another Pirates movie after all. This does not upset me.
- What if there was a Twilight-ified version of The Creature from the Black Lagoon? It might look a little something like this. (Via)
- Awesome furniture!
- Another fun Where the Wild Things Are contest: customize the fur-covered edition.
- A bunch of fun downloadable masks.
- Vintage Masters of the Universe paintings.
- Weird links from Warren Ellis: humans are still evolving, scientists know how body part regeneration works now, and Balloon Boy's father wanted TV fame before the world ends in 2012. Well I'm glad staring the apocalypse in the face really put his priorities in order!
- Google is also making a search deal with Twitter.
- Flickr has Facebook-style people-tagging now.
- A new study shows that "iPhone users are three times more likely to Tweet or Facebook their sexual antics than BlackBerry users." Good to know.
- Set footage from the A-Team movie, and some small hints about the plot.
- Ralph Fiennes, William Hurt, Vanessa Redgrave, Jessica Chastain, and Gerard Butler will all star in a new movie version of Shakespeare's Coriolanus.
- Some intriguing bits of news from cast member Willem Dafoe about John Carter of Mars.
- Cool robot art.
- The theme to Ghostbusters recreated entirely by a dude multitracking himself doing all the singing and sounds. Brilliant and hilarious.
- A short film called The Wall based on A Song of Ice and Fire. (Via)
- A truly excellent Star Trek accessory. (Via)
- Dude, Trent Reznor did a Fringe promo (via)! It's a combo nearly as tasty as peanut butter and chocolate. Oh, and guess who else likes Fringe? Simon Pegg (via)!
- Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron (!) are both being considered for the lead role in the next Mad Max.
- Woah. LED eyelashes. (Via)
- Freaking awesome art, featuring Batman, Robin, Superman, and a Vogon. (Via)
- I love Marvel Comics! I love ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead! Here's Marvel interviewing Conrad Keely of Trail of Dead! Huzzah! (Via)
- New free Kristin Hersh track! You have no reason not to download it! (Via)
- Zombie candy corn! (Via)
- 10 shows you have to watch to understand the world. (Via)
- The 10 top pop culture vampires. (Via)
- Them Crooked Vultures are finally putting out an album! You can preorder it now! It even comes with a T-shirt! (Via)
- Whoops: Google book scans with fingers in them. (Via)
- This is great: interactive map of The Village. (Via)
- The best and weirdest costumes added to io9's Flickr set.
- The top ten robots for boys from sci-fi movies and TV shows. I'll have to remember these.
- Blue Screen of Death belt buckle.
- Cool custom toys: A Clockwork Orange Playmobil figure, steam locomotive Optimus Prime, and Roland Deschain of The Dark Tower action figure. (Via)
- Speaking of The Dark Tower, supposedly Damon Lindelof has decided he doesn't want to be involved in making it into a movie because he loves it too much and he doesn't want to screw it up. Huh. Now I kind of want him to do it. (Via)
- Cool SEGA lighters.

- Pretty cool Wolverine painting. (Via)
- Video of an amazing pop-up LEGO Zen temple. (Via)
- Woah! One of my favorite comic book artists, John Cassaday, is directing an episode of Dollhouse! Very cool. (Via)
- A big set of photos from the Alternative Press Expo. (Via)
- There's a bit of a buzz surrounding Barnes & Noble's new e-reader, Nook. Here's a chart comparing it with the Amazon Kindle 2 (which should be taken with a grain of salt, as the chart was put together by B&N). (Via)
- Pretty good zombie George Lucas costume. (Via)
- A poster for what could be the next children's book to get a perhaps-too-adult big screen adaptation. Don't worry, it's a joke. I think. (Via Duane)
- R2-D2's cameo in Transformers 2 (via). Speaking of everybody's favorite Astromech droid, check out this very nice fan-made R2-D2 hoodie.

- You've got to love this guy Andy's Dude-a-Day project. This time he takes on the Beatles. (Via)
- Scientists have developed the first artificial hand that has feeling. It works by connecting human nerve endings with tiny electronic sensors. (Via)
- I was loath to link to this list, as it includes a mention of the hated Starship Troopers, but the rest of the selections are good enough to warrant a reference. So behold! Sci-fi's 10 best second-in-commands. (Should that be seconds-in-command? Who knows?) (Via)
- Pretty excellent poster for Terminator 2.
- Alien cow abduction lamp.
- Over 40 (!!!) crazy sci-fi dream sequences.
- Remember that 3D-animated cartoon called ReBoot? It was a pretty clever and fun show, with a plot vaguely similar to Tron. Well, it looks like they're making a movie! Check out the teaser.
- ABC's going a little overboard with their promotion of V. Starting this Friday, "skywriters will create giant letter Vs multiple times a day above 26 well-known American landmarks."
- Cool new trailer for the Prisoner remake.
- Sounds like the rumors of De Niro and Jude Law showing up in Thor are probably just rumors. Sadness.
- The top five hunk of junk spaceships. Hmm. Not sure I'd classify the Borg cube as a hunk of junk, but still love the list.
- An "affordable" 3D copier! Put an object in and it will make a copy in plastic.
- Impressive cakes: Pac-Man and Darth Vader. I don't think I'd eat the Darth Vader one, though. Not appetizing at all.
- Robotic cheetah!!!
- Nikes made of junk.
- A short and stupidly funny clip from Star Wars with some new dialog added in.
- This interesting interview with director Richard Kelly about his upcoming film The Box made me want to see the movie more - and also less. Basing the main characters on his parents seems like a weird and pointless idea. But who knows, maybe it will work.
- Gigantic info dump on Epic Mickey. I don't have time to look at this, but thought somebody else might, so there you go. (Via)
- Hey, turns out Antarctica is really damn big. (Via)

- NASA is testing its first new rocket in 30 years.
- Posters for Legion.
- The guy who's been running FlashForward - Marc Guggenheim - has been replaced with co-creator and executive producer David Goyer. It might be a meaningless change, but then again it might be a response to a dip in the ratings.
- Google could be launching a competitor to the iTunes Music Store soon.
- Looks like the script for that Crow remake is done and they're going to move forward with casting.
- Seven great horror movie themes (as in music).

- Hilarious image list: the world of tomorrow if the internet disappeared today. (Via)
- Ha ha ha! Burn. (Via)
- Amusing bathroom graffiti. (Via)
- Bing will supposedly start searching Twitter and Facebook status messages soon. How will it get access to Facebook status messages?? That seems like a bit of an invasion of privacy, unless it will somehow link in to your Facebook account and only search your friends' updates?
- M.C. Escher disses Mick Jagger. Pretty awesome. (Via)

- I do not watch The Big Bang Theory, but I hear great things, and the Wil Wheaton episode looks like it will be fun. (Via)
- @Agent_M highlights some cool art.
- British scientists have developed a system that allows primitive brain-to-brain communication. It could be the future of the internet, allowing people to send thoughts, words, and images directly into the minds of others. Wow. (Via)
- A couple of interesting tidbits from @westerosorg on the Game of Thrones pilot: the castle from Monty Python and the Holy Grail will be a shooting location, and they'll also be using the still-standing sets from Kingdom of Heaven (via).
- In retrospect, I'm surprised it took so long for this particular animal-with-a-lightsaber to show up.
- A nuclear-powered robot ship could soon be sailing the great lakes of Titan. Awesome.
- You Know It's An Indie Horror Movie When...
- In this photo gallery, io9 takes a look through movies, TV shows, and comics to find out what your favorite sci-fi characters wore for Halloween.
- A gallery of Hammer pinup girls! Very nice.
- A bunch more clips, plus a behind-the-scenes video, from Fantastic Mr. Fox. It's still hard to tell yet if this is going to be a good movie. It certainly doesn't look as exciting as I'd hoped it would.
- Jason Schwartzman says he's seen 20 minutes of Scott Pilgrim and it's "unlike anything I've ever seen. I can't tell you much, but sort of beautiful; incredible. Good job Edgar Wright, good job." Also, some Veronica Mars alumni are being called in to work on a new CW show called Plymouth Rock about a bunch of young people on board a spaceship travelling to a distant planet which they hope to colonize, thus saving the human race. (Via)

- Magnetricity sounds cool. (Via)
- Great photo of a giant Russian WWII monument that has been converted into a cell phone tower.
- A look at the impressive cast of Robert Redford's historical drama about Lincoln's assassination, The Conspirator.
- Cinematical reviews Law Abiding Citizen, which I decided not to see at the Philadelphia Film Festival last night because of the ridiculous ticket price. Looks like I made the right decision; the movie sounds terrible.
- Could Nathan Fillion star in a remake of The Greatest American Hero?? I certainly hope so.
- It is disappointing, but not particularly surprising, that Terrence Malick's latest film will not be done on time. He's not exactly known for working quickly.
- Clever and fun kids' hoodies.
- Pretty great zombie reimagining of an Empire Strikes Back poster. (Via)
- Fascinating photo blog of previously undeveloped negatives discovered at an auction. It's great candid street photography. (Via)
- Dude teaches wolf puppy to howl. Cute! (Via)
- Crazy new espionage version of the classic board game Clue which features an optional text-messaging element. (Via Nick)
- ABC is apparently considering a for-real crossover between Desperate Housewives and Lost. Because those shows have so much in common.
- Superheroes in old war photographs.
- 11 great movie scenes involving exploding heads.
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii is "pretty difficult?" What? Why?! I need my games to be easy, dude. I'm getting old.
