- Know those decals some people have in their car windows, featuring a cartoon depiction of each member of the family? Kinda cheesy, right? Here's a funnier, less cheesy spin on it.
- Mr. Dan Hipp celebrates the Green Lantern, and other green heroes and villains from throughout pop culture history. Speaking of Green Lantern, here's the Onion A.V. Club review of the new animated movie, and Ebert's review of the new live-action movie. Sounds like neither movie is all that great, but I still might have to watch them eventually, just because.

- Quentin Tarantino's western, Django Unchained, has a release date! It's December 25, 2012. Merry Christmas!
- The Academy is changing the Best Picture nomination process yet again so that there can now be anywhere from 5 to 10 nominees each year, depending on how many movies receive first place votes on 5 percent of total ballots cast. Wha? Why don't we just go back to 5, guys? That was working fine for a long time.
- Check out Sam Bosma's site - he's been doing sketches of characters from the Song of Ice and Fire books lately.
- This ad for the new Legend of Zelda game featuring Robin Williams and his daughter Zelda (who apparently was actually named after the princess) is pretty darn cute.
- A Pontiac built with an entirely transparent, Plexiglass exterior for the 1939 New York World's Fair is going up for auction and has been appraised at a price between $275,000 and $475,000. Click through for some awesome pictures.
- I'm mostly over impressive replicas of things in cake form, but this Millennium Falcon cake has working lights!!
- The Wolverine has a new director and it is James "Not Darren Aronofsky" Mangold. Hmm. I've seen a handful of Mangold's films. Of those, Cop Land was the only really good one. Identity and 3:10 to Yuma were both well done but had disappointing endings. So I guess we'll see!
- Watch the red band trailer for Attack the Block, which is a sci-fi/action/comedy featuring Nick Frost and South London hoodlums versus aliens. Fun! (Via Blastr, a site that cleverly got the movie's title wrong in its headline. Sigh.)

- So what's all this Pottermore stuff about? It appears to be official, from J.K. Rowling herself, and the obvious implication is that we can expect more Harry Potter. Possibly it's just referring to an encyclopedia, which isn't all that exciting. But still... squee? Anyway, while we're talking Harry Potter, check out the latest trailer for the last movie. It is mighty exciting, and the emotional opening nearly made me break down at my desk here.

- Ooh, they've cast Bard and Smaug in The Hobbit! Benedict Cumberbatch, who made a very fine Sherlock Holmes in the recent BBC TV series, will play the part of the dragon. I'm not familiar with the dude playing Bard (Luke Evans), but he certainly looks the part.

- You can stream The Mountain Goats' new album, All Eternals Deck, in its entirety on NPR. Good stuff, but occasionally just depressing. So yeah, standard Mountain Goats.
- Another new preview for Game of Thrones. Longer! Still looking good!
- A very serious, dramatic, and action-packed ad for the new Thundercats show.
- A look at the swords of The Legend of Zelda.
- I've been trying to avoid posting casting rumors anymore, because they so often turn out to be BS, but man, I'd love to see Viggo Mortensen as General Zod.
- Here's a trailer for a Spanish film supposedly inspired by Lovecraft, although the only obviously Lovecraftian thing in it (and, coincidentally, the only interesting thing in it) is Cthulhu, who shows up at the end.
- Super Punch gives us a fun image roundup.
- Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery is a pretty intriguing-looking iPad game. For those of you with iPads. *sob*
- Alex Robinson draws Frank Miller's Batman from The Dark Knight Returns.
- Game|Life interprets the visual warnings in the instruction manual for Nintendo's new 3DS.
- Cinematical/Moviefone runs down the winners of the Razzies and the Oscars. I'm glad to see The Last Airbender (my review) was roundly excoriated, and that one of the few Best Picture nominees that I actually saw (and enjoyed very much) won the award (The King's Speech). I don't usually enjoy Natalie Portman's performances, but I have to admit she was really good in Black Swan and probably deserves her statue. Toy Story 3 (my review) was obviously going to win Best Animated Feature Film, but again, well deserved. I also love that Trent Reznor has an Oscar now (and for one of my favorite albums of 2010, no less!). Who would have guessed that was going to happen back in the '90s, huh?

- Above is a fun new trailer for Clash of the Titans. Interestingly, it looks like they're shaping the story around an underlying conflict between the Gods and humanity. (Via)
- There's going to be a new movie based on The Shadow, and Sam Raimi will produce and possibly direct. Can't say I'm all that pleased by this news. I realize I'm nearly alone in saying this, but I think Raimi only made one or two good movies in his entire career, and those were many years ago. Plus, I really liked the previous Shadow film, starring Alec Baldwin.
- Apparently Syfy's Tin Man and Alice both did well in the ratings, so the station will follow those up with five more classic fairy tale updates, including Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel & Gretel, and Beauty and the Beat. (Via)
- I'm not quite sure how I feel about the President's proposed changes to the space program. But I do like the idea of focusing on R&D, and on going to Mars and other, more distant planets, instead of returning to the moon. Because seriously people, we're going to have to find another planet to live on relatively soon.
- Interesting details from director Joe Johnston on what the Captain America movie will be like: "The film will begin 'in 1942, 1943' during World War II. 'The stuff in the '60s and '70s [comic books] we're sort of avoiding. We're going back to the '40s, and then forward to what they're doing with Captain America now.'"
- I'm not a big papercraft guy, but this recreation of the iPad presentation is pretty great.
- AT-AT racing!
- A new trailer for LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4.
- Zachary Quinto may play George Gershwin in a biopic directed by Steven Spielberg.
- For some reason, despite the fact that I love martial arts films, I have yet to see any of the Ong Bak films. I really have to correct that one of these days. Anyway, here's the trailer for Ong Bak 3. Looks like Ong's Back... with a vengeance!! Boom! There's your catchphrase. You can have that one for free. Actually, it looks like dude is some kind of violent Jesus. Fun! I wish they'd up their sound effects budget, though. I think they used just the one hitting sound effect over and over and over again in that trailer.
- The Oscar nominations have been announced. I've seen only a small fraction of the Best Picture nominees, but of those, I definitely support The Hurt Locker for the win. And hey, Coraline got nominated for Best Animated Feature Film! Cool. But I really kind of can't believe Sandra Bullock got nominated for Best Actress. Guh.

- I'm thinking a lot more people would use the Microsoft error-reporting dialog if it worked like it does in this video. Although seeing as how I'm a developer myself, the idea of people being punished by remote users for every bug they write into a piece of code is as terrifying as it is amusing. (Via Howard)
- Apparently Frank Miller is on Twitter and tweeted enigmatically the other day that something called "DINOSAUR" is coming this week. I've mostly lost faith in Mr. Miller, but I have to admit this has me a bit intrigued.
- Seven new clips from Wolfman. Some pretty big spoilers here - you see the creature and everything - so maybe don't watch these if you want to stay pure for the movie. For my own part, having watched these clips, I'm not as excited for the movie anymore. It doesn't really look that great. Corny dialog and not very impressive performances; apparently Anthony Hopkins just set himself to auto-creep mode.
- Let's Be Friends Again is not always funny, but this one is pretty good.
- Samuel L. Jackson is creating his own comic called Cold Space, a four-issue sci-fi/action miniseries for Boom! Studios. It's about "an opportunist who crash lands on a planet in the midst of a civil war, discovering a way to play both factions against each other for his own personal gain." Celebrity forays into comics are not often good, but this sounds like fun.
- It seems like you can never have enough USB ports! But maybe you can now with this 80-port USB panel.
- Here's a machine that turns extra office paper into toilet paper. Okay then.
- Yay, the Razzie nominees are out! I stand fully behind the nomination of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for worst picture of 2009. (Via)
- Sci Fi Wire put together a list of 9 underrated, overlooked sci-fi and fantasy films of 2009. Some of these look pretty fascinating.
- New Diablo III screenshots!

- Every time I give up on Clone Wars, I start hearing great things about it again. For instance, the show recently featured a cubist painting of the Queen of Mandalore, and the Star Wars version of Guernica, which depicts the Mandalorian War against the Old Republic Jedi.
- A site called Little White Lies is running an interesting art contest to promote the movie Kick-Ass: the entrant is asked to reduce his favorite film to six comic book panels. (Via)

- Above is an amusing fan-made video supporting the cause of nominating Sam Rockwell for an Oscar for his work in Moon. The director approves. (Via)
- Incredibly strange, and poorly done, French Star Wars-themed dance spectacular.
- It's possible for water to start a forest fire. A drop of water on a leaf could focus sunlight like a magnifying glass and burn the leaf.
- Impressive Starry Night cake.
- The big entertainment news on the internet yesterday was that Spider-Man 4 has been canceled and Sony will reboot the franchise without director Sam Raimi or star Tobey Maguire. They're going to take the character back to high school and make it a story about "a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises." This new teen Spider-Man will arrive in 2012, supposedly. Frankly I never really liked the Spider-Man movies, or the combo of Raimi and Maguire, so I could see how this could be a good move. On the other hand, I'm rarely a fan of movies about teens and their problems, so I don't know. (Via)
- The folks at io9 haven't seen Book of Eli yet, but they happen to know the plot revolves around an iPod somehow still working 30 years after the apocalypse. Kinda kills your suspension of disbelief right there, doesn't it?
- The director of Legion already has plans for two sequels, but io9 suspects the first movie will suck, although possibly in a good way.
- Download Squad lists 10 fun, free tower defense games.
- Robert Zemeckis' 3D motion capture, computer-animated Yellow Submarine has its four main stars. And by "stars" I mean the people whose faces and bodies his demonic technology will make a hideous mockery of. But I kid Robert Zemeckis. Sort of. Anyway, we've got Cary Elwes as George Harrison, Peter Serafinowicz as Paul McCartney, Adam Campbell as Ringo Starr, and Dean Lennox Kelly as John Lennon. - A rather embarrassing video of a BBC reporter breaking a supposedly unbreakable phone.
- Game|Life picks the most anticipated games of 2010. I've kind of lost interest in video games, I guess. I'm not really looking forward to any of these. Three of them are the next entries in series that I enjoy, but I never got around to finishing the previous entries, so...
- Sadness: Robert Downey Jr. won't be in Cowboys & Aliens after all. In other uncasting/recasting news, John Malkovich will replace John C. Reilly in the film adaptation of Warren Ellis' Red.

- Videos keep going up and down this morning! But for now, at least, please enjoy the trailer for Robin Hood above (via). This is the upcoming film from Ridley Scott, starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett. It looks pretty awesome. Check out some stills from the movie here. Damn, Blanchett looks good.
- A lot of stories are coming out about how Avatar ripped off this and Avatar ripped off that. I don't really care that much about any of them. I mean, what didn't rip off something? But I do enjoy this gallery of art by Roger Dean, even if it is presented in the same context.
- Cool sculptures, including one of Santa Cthulhu and Mrs. Cthulhu, and one of Odin's ravens.
- IMPORTANT INFORMATION: scientific determination of how long Luke would likely be able to survive the freezing temperatures of Hoth while stuffed into the guts of a dead Tauntaun. (Via)

- There was a bit of an uproar a while back when the title of Kevin Smith's upcoming cop movie changed from the rather amusing A Couple of Dicks to the bland and lame A Couple of Cops. Seemingly in response to the uproar, the title was quickly changed back. Now it looks like they're changing it again - to Cop Out. It seems an unfortunately appropriate change this time.
