- Want to make a clever single-serving website, but don't want to buy the domain name and go to all the work of setting it up? Tom Boutell has the answer! Now I just need to come up with an idea for a clever single-serving website...
- Some wonderful Dune art. I particularly like the illustration of the "Fear is the mindkiller" speech.
- I'm just going to put this here: "Nanogenerators powered by your heartbeat could replace batteries in five years, say chemists."
- Heh. This Fake Science Tumblr is pretty funny. And it just got a book deal!
- The folks at io9 have seen the first 40 minutes of Cowboys and Aliens, and they give it a thumbs up.
- It seemed odd to me that Dillinger's son appeared in Tron: Legacy, but never really took part in the plot. This cool little video explains his presence by suggesting that he, and the Master Control Program, will indeed play a part in the next Tron film.
- Hey, a new entry on hipster puppies! And it's very funny!
- Enrique Alcatena does it again. Here are some amazing splash pages for a series following the adventures of a bad-ass dandy living in an alternate version of 19th century England.
- Noted Batmanologist Chris Sims highlights 10 of the more insane and hilarious illustrations from a crazy Batman storybook.
- More great posters from Reelizer, this time for Raising Arizona and Wild at Heart.
- Wondermark reveals what happens to you if you eat one of those silica gel packets that tell you not to eat them.
- Apparently you can now put out fires with magic wands that shoot electrical pulses. I love the future!
- A wonderful sci-fi character growth chart.
- Let's get all the comic book movie news out of the way in one bullet point. Supposedly a Justice League movie could be here by 2013, and we're looking at the strong possibility of X-Men 4 and 5. Christopher Nolan is guarding the ending to The Dark Knight Rises religiously, and the Batman franchise is likely to get rebooted yet again once Nolan is done with it. I guess because his version wouldn't really allow for a Justice League movie? Finally, some new images from X-Men: First Class which do not in any way assuage my trepidation about this film.
- Peter Jackson is sticking more ladies into The Hobbit. Which is a noble goal and all, but still... you're rewriting my Bible, man!!
- Your first look at Andy Serkis as Caesar in Rise of the Apes.
- Oh man, I love the Lando Lakes butter wrapper.
- Creative use of the Facebook Like button.
- The last image in this roundup is my favorite. But then, I'm always partial to magic doors.
- Holy crap, a new Bunnies reenactment! Be sure to stick around to the end and watch the deleted scenes.
- There could have been an edition of The Hobbit illustrated by Maurice Sendak. So sad this didn't happen.
- Amazingly detailed, fan-created Muppet Show playset.

- This video short which covers what happens between Tron and Tron: Legacy, as well as a bit of what happens after the end of Tron: Legacy, is a bit cheesy, like anything Tron-related, but also rather fun and cleverly done.
- The "Making Game of Thrones" blog has started a series of video features on the various noble houses. First up, naturally, is House Stark. Plus, there's another awesome, awesome trailer for the show as a whole.
- Here's a dude who buys boring landscape paintings at yard sales and then adds monsters to them. Excellent.
- I can't be the only one who thinks this teaser trailer for the new Conan the Barbarian is terrible. Seriously, it's like a parody of bad action movie trailers, complete with a "THIS SUMMER" opening and a ridiculously growly-voiced narrator. Plus it shows you absolutely nothing, and the dialog is terrible.
- In case you haven't seen it yet, the trailer for Super 8 is really worth watching. This looks and sounds like vintage Spielberg.
- A very colorful car crash: a truck carrying 8,000 gallons of printer ink flipped and busted open, spilling various colors of ink all over the road.
- Super Mario Bros. with more realistic sound effects. (Via)
- A couple of sets of micro-scale LEGO vehicles.
- Another amusing Super Punch image roundup.
- The iPhantom Zone.
- Oh hey, Facebook has finally expanded @ tagging to comments (which we all thought it should have had in the first place).
- It only costs $50 to spend three hours in the Batman suite. And you know what hourly rates means! It means Bat-sexy time.
- After I saw Moon, I was really excited to see what director Duncan Jones would do next. I was a little disappointed in the first trailer for his follow-up, Source Code, but this review is promising.
- I absolutely love this idea: adding tiny doors to boring facades.
- Lots of wonderful art is up for sale online to benefit Ghana.
- Stephen King wrote another Dark Tower book! It's called The Wind Through the Keyhole and it's set between Wizard and Glass and Wolves of the Calla.

A New Year, a Fresh New Recyclotron |

- You can listen to The Decemberists' new album, The King Is Dead, in its entirety on NPR. As the folks in the band have said in interviews, this album is a departure for them - simpler, more straightforward; not an epic concept album, just a collection of songs. As a result, I'm not as excited about it as I was about their more recent releases, but it's still good music.
- Yay! A hilarious new edition of Hark! A Vagrant!
- A visual history of Daft Punk's costumes. Daft Punk's cameo in Tron Legacy was one of my favorite scenes.
- You may have heard Pixar is doing a short film set in the Toy Story universe, centering on Barbie and Ken. The plot has been revealed.
- Watch polar bears attack and destroy the high tech spy cameras sent to film them.
- A 1991 Mexican Alka-Seltzer commercial directed by Guillermo Del Toro - it features a werewolf, naturally.
- Neil Gaiman offers a very fine New Year's benediction.
- Awesome Christmas card by Nick Edwards, featuring Santa riding a dinosaur and firing a laser cannon.
- Pac-Man's cameo in Tron, revealed!
- Nice custom Hellboy figure.
- Cult classic movies turned into comic books. I particularly like Legend #18, which features the return of Darkness, and The Other Adventures of the Dread Pirate Roberts #74. (Via)
- If you're going to Germany any time soon (or you live there), beware the radioactive wild boars!!
- I've been looking forward to seeing the entries in Super Punch's latest monthly art contest - the one centering on Stanley Kubrick's Lord of the Rings film adaptation, starring the Beatles - and now they've finally been revealed! As it happens, the site's erstwhile creator, Mr. Struan, is having a hard time picking a winner, and is asking for your help on deciding, so head on over and tell him your favorite.
- Download Squad picks its 12 favorite time-wasters of 2010. Might have to waste some time with these soon...
- Sad news: great character actor Pete Postlethwaite has died.
- Going up for auction on January 13th: the Playboy pinup that was smuggled aboard Apollo 12.
- Cute 8-bit version of Tron Legacy, based on Mega Man sprites, complete with an 8-bit version of Daft Punk's "Derezzed."

- This bullet point is for reposts from Twitter! There are a lot of rumors flying back and forth about the Alien prequel, and it's hard to determine which are true and which false. The news the other day was that the film's release had been pushed back, but now it sounds like that would only have happened if they could have gotten Leondardo DiCaprio for the movie, because they would have to have taken his schedule into account. Since they couldn't get Leo, the movie will proceed on its original schedule, with production beginning next March. However, the same report said the movie would be called Paradise, and now it sounds like that's not true. So who knows? In other movie news previously tweeted, Orlando Bloom is supposedly close to signing on to reprise his role as Legolas in The Hobbit. Now we all know Legolas was not in The Hobbit, but seeing as how he's a wood elf, and the dwarves spend some time in the wood elves' prison in Mirkwood, I can see how you could sneak him into the story. I just hope they don't make a big deal about it, and he's more of a background character. My final bit of previously tweeted news has to do with a TV show. Fringe's first episode of 2011, and the first episode aired from its new post in the Friday night "death slot," will be called "Firefly." I thought at first this was an ominous coincidence, but Blastr points out it was probably a deliberate joke/reference by the show creators.
- Sometimes reality really is stranger than fiction: those Indonesian Hobbit people may have shared their island with giant, 6-foot-tall cranes.
- Mario is celebrating his 25th anniversary this year, so The Autumn Society produced a nice commemorative image for him.
- Dude, Madballs! I remember Madballs!
- An... interesting reimagining of a Casper the Friendly Ghost comic book cover.
- The first official promo pics from the fourth Pirates movie. Nothing too exciting here, but still. Fun.
- The nisse is apparently a Scandinavian gnome of some kind. Here are some neat snow globes featuring the creature.
- A wonderful Star Wars print by Daniel Danger called "Sanctuary Moon."
- This year's Swedish Icehotel features a room inspired by Tron: Legacy. Click through for some cool pics.
- Click through and comment for your chance to win a custom-crafted lightsaber.
- My favorite Daily Batman in a while.
- Nick Cave is doing a movie about bootleggers during prohibition which will star Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy. Cool.
- The Wachowskis have been unable to secure funding for "their tale of forbidden love between an American and Iraqi soldier and the men's plan to assassinate President George W. Bush" (big surprise there!), but not to worry! They have another project in the wings: a modernized take on the story of Robin Hood which they're hoping might star Will Smith. Considering their love of stories about bad-ass rebels sticking it to The Man, this sounds right up their alley.
- A couple of intriguing set pics from X-Men: First Class.

- President Obama will be on Mythbusters tonight. GeekDad lowers expectations about the episode, but says it's still a good one.
- A set of photos of action figures of Doctor Who villains hanging out in various real-world locations. (Via)
- A kick-ass music video for one of the best tracks on the Tron: Legacy soundtrack, "Derezzed." It features cyber-jousting! (In case you missed it, I named the Tron: Legacy soundtrack one of the top ten albums of 2010.)
- NASA's much-hyped arsenic life form announcement may have been a bunch of hooey. Disappointing!
- Somehow I only just realized this, but A.V. Club is doing a holiday version of Undercover. That means they're bringing ten artists into their weird little round room to cover ten holiday songs. Example: here's Kate Nash and her band doing a rather lovely cover of "Merry X-Mas Everybody."
- My friends, here it is, the pinnacle of our achievements as a species: the trailer for Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus. This film features Robert Picardo and Jaleel "Urkel" White. Astounding.
- Syfy must have liked the pilot for Alphas, that show about ordinary people who gain superpowers, because the network just ordered 11 episodes.
- December means lots of end of year best of lists. Here's A.V. Club's picks for the best music of 2010.
- Witness the ridiculousness that is a 149-hit combo in Super Street Fighter IV.
- Blah Blah Blah: The Video. A celebration of blah blah blah in movies and television.
- An impressive compendium of Super Mario glitches. Many are accompanied by handy animated GIF demonstrations. (Via)
- The "Song of Healing" from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, performed on wine glasses.
- Casino R'lyeh Cthulhu Mythos Poker Cards.
- Here are a couple of links that I already posted to Twitter, but couldn't help reposting here. First off, some fun travel posters for comic book cities. Next, some amazing casting news for The Hobbit: Cate Blanchett is returning as Galadriel, and Sylvester "Seventh Doctor" McCoy will play Radagast the Brown. Of course, the fact that Galadriel and Radagast are showing up means we're going to get to see the meeting of the White Council that happens "off-screen" in the book, during one of the various times that Gandalf splits from the company to do his own thing. I have to say, I am VERY EXCITED about this!! Plus, the Doctor is going to be Radagast! Awesome.
- A sampling of some of the great art up for auction on eBay in support of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.
- Super Punch highlights some great photography, including these shots of weird mushrooms, and this one of coral.

- GeekDad comes up with five ways to get Cthulhu into your Christmas, which I think is a noble goal.
- One of my favorite web comics, Axe Cop, is officially making the jump to real comics!
- The A.V. Club reviews the intriguing new video game, Epic Mickey. Sounds like it's just okay.
- A handful of older links, including links I already tweeted but wanted to repost here because they are so cool: the meat nativity; wonderful Dr. Seuss/Star Wars mashups; Lord of the Rings/Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer mashup T-shirt design by Adam "Apelad" Koford.
- A cute, plush version of Link from Legend of Zelda.
- I don't know about the girl side, but I find the boy side of this timeline of the best gifts to be pretty accurate. (Via)
- Cory Doctorow gives Tron: Legacy a pretty darn positive review. Encouraging! (Via)
- Something Awful gives us a tour of the magazines of the future. Super Punch has it right: this is the best one.
- Even though its plot clearly centers around the old "assassin is ordered to hurt a child, and thus immediately rejects his entire self and past and becomes a good guy we can feel okay rooting for" cliche, The Warrior's Way is still vaguely attractive to me, mostly because it is apparently about a master assassin fighting ninjas in the Old West, with the help of a dirty, drunken Geoffrey Rush. Thankfully Cinematical's review has put my desire to see the film to bed.

- I believe George Lucas mentioned a long time ago that he was planning to release all the Star Wars movies yet again, this time in 3D, but it got a lot more official the other day when it was announced that the 3D re-releases would begin in 2012 with everybody's least favorite, The Phantom Menace. Despite how annoying the Special Editions and Prequels are, I'd still totally go and see at least the original trilogy again in 3D. Because Lucas owns me.
- Apparently Trent Reznor's concept album Year Zero (it was a concept album?) is lurching towards becoming a TV miniseries.
- I have to admit I did not read this whole article, but I'm very amused by the concept: io9 argues that Syfy's next hybrid monster should be the bearantula.
- The Birds of Prey sing an outrageously racy song about the male superheroes in a surprising scene from an episode of Batman: The Brave and The Bold.
- Tons of concept art and stills from Tron Legacy.
- "In honor of Back to the Future's 25th anniversary... select AMC theaters will screen a digitally remastered print of the film in more than 40 cities on October 23 and 25." Yes, the Philadelphia area is included! Exciting.
- Guillermo del Toro is writing and directing an animated film called Trollhunters for Dreamworks, and will also serve as executive producer and consultant on a number of the studio's other animated films. Apparently he's not busy enough and wants to take over animation, as well. (Via)
- These parodies of Star Wars toys really crack me up for some reason.
- Batman always does things the hard way - like fighting off a jungle cat by throwing a snake at it!
- I tweeted this a while back, but I wanted to blog it, too, because it's just that cool: the trailer for the Coen brothers' remake of True Grit.
- Here's a trailer for a movie called I Am Number Four, which is about super-powered aliens fighting each other, a subject near and dear to my heart.
- Cool Batman art.
- Another fun clip from Red.
