Poppy and I were talking about perfect songs last night - songs that are just so fantastic that you could just listen to them over and over and there's just not a thing wrong with them. We both agreed "Don't Fear the Reaper" was one of these. And I myself find the Foo Fighters' "In Your Honor" (the title track, and introduction, to their latest album, a double-disc masterpiece) to be another. It's absolutely thrilling and fantastic, and when it came up on my shuffle yesterday, I couldn't resist doing just a little headbanging, even though I was walking through the Gallery at the time.
And just now I heard Rage Against the Machine's "Testify," off The Battle of Los Angeles, followed immediately by their magnificent cover of Dylan's "Maggie's Farm," and I came to the conclusion that Rage is one of my favorite bands of all time. They have a serious lack of subtlety, but they're so good it doesn't matter. |
