SuperFun!!! |

- More Buffy movies are possible, besides the Spike movie that's already been mentioned! I feel a little more positive about this news than the X-Files sequel news I mentioned yesterday, even though the Buffy series finale was also awful. Whedon screws up sometimes, but he's a talented dude, and I could see him throwing together some pretty cool movies.
- Awww, man, William Hootkins died! That name might not mean much to most of you, but he's a great character actor who played bit parts in various awesome geek movies. I remember him most fondly as the government guy in the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and, of course, my favorite Rebel-pilot-that-got-blown-up-in-Star-Wars, Porkins. Good-bye, Mr. Hootkins. You are well-loved.
- I like comics, so I've got to respect a figure like Stan Lee, despite the fact that I'm not a huge fan of his work specifically, or his recent TV ventures. So I'm kind of interested in the made-for-TV movie he's putting together for the Sci-Fi Channel - LightSpeed. It's about a dude who, after a horrible accident involving radiation (of course), gains superpowers. Sounds pretty by-the-numbers, and the Sci-Fi Channel isn't known for quality movies, but you never know.
- Everybody's posted about this already, really, but I've got to mention it anyway: George Takei just revealed he's gay. Not terrifically shocking to me. That's cool. I'm just surprised it took him so long to come out.
- I bet Dan Radcliffe stole the flying car. That little punk.
- Something else for the Potter fans: a creepy clip from the new movie, via The Movie Blog. Pretty cool stuff.
- I liked Eli Roth's Cabin Fever, so I'm pretty curious about his new film, Hostel. The trailer (which is pretty good, and is also via The Movie Blog) reveals that Quentin Tarantino is involved somehow (though probably only as a producer of some kind), and IMDB tells me that Takashi Miike is apparently starring (?!?), so now I'm even more curious.
- Super-fast movie downloading sounds pretty awesome. Too bad it's still so far off.
- Again, an NPR story summary amuses me. Am I just weird? I don't know. But this blurb about the White House's many woes, which, simply by the nature of its subject, had me pretty jolly anyway, has this great final sentence: "How is President Bush coping?" I just imagine the story (which I haven't listened to, of course) being about all the things Bush is doing to keep his mind off of the scandal - like maybe playing ping pong, or watching reruns of Desperate Housewives.
- Dude, Target's going to be selling a stand-up arcade cabinet that plays multiple classic games (with the option of plugging in other consoles via the A/V inputs) for under $500. That's pretty sweet. Still a bit too expensive and redundant for me to actually purchase. But very cool anyway.
- Apparently it doesn't take as much advantage of its many possibilities as it could, but this new video game Stubbs the Zombie: Rebel Without a Pulse sounds pretty cool anyway. You play as a zombie! And you can turn other people into zombies! And tear you own hand off and send it off to perform errands for you! Nice.
- As usual, Sarcasmo has a number of fun things for us today, including how to build your own Dalek (man, I wish we had us one of those), a list of lists of fictional characters (you know I couldn't resist that; I mean, a list of lists!!!), and a fantastic computer-generated movie of Yoda dancing.
